Mufti Abdul Kader Hoosen is a senior Aalim in South Africa. He is popular for his Q&A programme on Channel Islam. Mufti Saehb is fondly known as Mufti AK and on occasions has also been referred to as Ak47. Mufti Saheb does not have a website on which he responds to questions, however he does answer queries via email:
mufti@telkomsa.net Just to correct some of the info that has previosly mentioned Mufti Saheb was born in Heidelberg, Gauteng in 1957. He was raised there and completed hiz hifz under Hafiz Limalia saheb. In March 1974, he left for Pakistan and enrolled at the Darul Uloom in Newtown. However, Mufti Saheb completed his Aalim course at Jamia Farouqia and he studied Bukhari under Maulana Saleemullah Khan saheb in 1980. Mufti saheb then began his teaching career at Darul Uloom Newcastle. He began as a Hifz Ustadh and in 1983 he was given to teach Muwatta and Nasai (this was the first year that Darul Uloom Newcastle taught the Dawrah). Mufti Saheb was granted to opportunity of teaching most of the subjects that were taught at the Darul Uloom during his time there. Mufti Saheb was the Head of the Darul Iftaa in Newcastle for over 10 years. He was also the Vice-Principal and he shared the position of Shaykhul Hadeeth with Maulana Cassim Sema saheb (Rahimahullah). Unfortunately in 2000, due to certain problems, Mufti Saheb resigned from Darul Uloom. In 2001 he joined CII, where he remains today as their resident Mufti. Mufti Saheb did his Masters through Rands Afrikaans University in Johannesburg and his dissetation was on Imam Tirmithi and his contribution to Hadith. Mufti Saheb has a few publications: 1) Imam Tirmithis contribution to Hadith 2) Imam Nasa'is contribution to Hadith 3) Ramadhan Q&A 4) Haj Q&A 5) Contemprary Q&A 6) Dua the weapon of a believer Mufti Saheb is known for his sharp wit, strong memory and abilty to answer questions on the spot. Mufti Saheb has a very warm and friendly personality and is a very approachable Aalim. Many people enjoy his company and he is very jovial and easy-going. His academic abilities are well recognised by many Ulama. He is very close with Mufti Rada ul Haq Saheb of Darul Uloom Zakariyyah and regularly visits him and poses questions to him. Mufti Saheb is no longer on the board of any bank or financial institution. He travels quite regularly and has been to many countries to lecture. He has been to the UK previously. Mufti Saheb is married. He has no children. He currently resides in Lenasia, Gauteng. |

Asslamo Allaikum, ![]() Mufti Abdul Kader Hoosen of Channel Islam is one of the senior Mufti's in South Africa. He qualified from Newtown Dar al-Ulum in Pakistan and was a senior teacher in Newcastle Darul Ulum, eventually becoming the Shaikh al-Hadith of the Madrasah, as well as the Mufti. He then joined Channel Islam and has been the in-house Mufti since its inception, approximately ten years ago. He is different from Mufti Afzal Husein Elyas, who is the Mufti of Radio Islam and who runs the site linked in the post above www.alislam.co.za As for the Mariful Quran cd, it is the version available online ie. scanned images, put into pdf format. Here is some more info on Mufti AK Hoosen: Mufti Abdul Kader Hoosen was born in Heidelberg in 1957. Through the Mercy and grace of Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala, he completed his hifz in 1970 and went on to complete his Alim course in 1980. He completed his Masters studies through Rand Afrikaans University in 1990 and by the year 2000, he had taught and served as Vice Principal of the Newcastle Darul Uloom for twenty years. Mufti Abdul Kader Hoosen is the Mufti of a satellite radio station called Channel Islam International and conducts many programs on air as well, one of the most famous programs being of course : Q & A. Mufti Hoosen has attended and completed a course in Islamic Judgery(Qadhi) in Saudi Arabia and has delivered papers at conferences in the Middle East . He served on the Shariah Advisory board of the Futuregrowth Albaraka Equity Fund for a period. He presently conducts lecture tours internationally. He has delivered lectures in almost every part of Southern Africa, Kenya and Australia . Mufti Hoosen is well-known for his extensive knowledge, particularly in the laws of inheritance and has conducted workshops for professionals, businessmen and theologians(ulama) in South Africa. |

Al hamdulilah, Mufti sahib is a great personality within this ummah. He has worked for many years towards the upliftment of Islam and is extremely well learned. He hosts the Q and A session on Channel Islam International radio and is truely an inspiaration to the masses. He talks with real confidence and captivates the listeners with his through knowledge which he is able to spontaneously convey. He is also humorous in his responses at times which is always marvellous to hear as he surely delivers the message and captivates the imagination of the audience.
