Salam Alikum my brothers & sisters,
This is a new tv series about Oman bin Al-Khattab. The series will be dubbed into languages mostly spoken by Muslims and subtitled into other languages such as English and French. The significance of the TV series depicting the life of Caliph Omar lies in the fact that he had played a very important role in the history of Islam and its spread after the death of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Such a TV drama would become an important reference in the whole Islamic history. Some muslims oppose it. What do you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_GXS...ature=youtu.be ( WARNIG: there is music in the video! ) |

By "the four" do you mean the Khulafaa ur Raashideen? Only the Rashideen won't be shown, and some other main Sahabis like Hassan (ra) & Hussein (ra)... as well as the women of-course. |

Yes, Sahabis will be shown such as Khalid (ra) or `Ammar (ra) or Bilal (ra)... not much different than that old movie "The message". |

السلام عليكم
I just happened to read the following passage in Majalis-al-Abrar. It occurs in the context of the proper way of celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, but it is worth reflecting upon in the context of this thread. Not even going into the issue of the images and pictures, just the opening music played while the bismillah is shown on the screen should cause any sincere Muslim to not even spare a second look at these. From Majlis #31: و قد قال النبي عليه السلام استماع الملاهي معصية و الجلوس عليها فسق و التلذذ بها كفر و روي انه عليه السلام ادخل اصبعيه في اذنيه عند سماعه و هم يسمعون امثال تلك الكلمات و لا يلتفتون اليها بل يدّعون الاسلام و محبة الله و رسوله و مع هذا يخالفونهما في الاوامر و النواهي فيكون الحال مشكلا و الحكّام يشاهدون امثال تلك المنهيات و لا يمنعون شيئا منها بل يساعدون فيها فمن كان باكيا فليبك على الاسلام و غربته اذ قد عاد الاسلام غريبا كما بدأ غريبا 'And the Prophet, peace be upon him, has said "Listening to musical instruments (malaahee) is a sin; and gathering and sitting together for that purpose is transgression (fisq); and taking delight and pleasure in them is disbelief (kufr)." And it has been related that he, peace be upon him, would put his fingers in both his ears upon hearing them [musical instruments]. Meanwhile, they [ignorant/stubborn people] hear the likes of these words [from the Prophet, عليه السلام] and do not take heed. Rather they allege [adherence to] Islam and love for Allah and His Messenger, at the same time opposing them in the commands and prohibitions. So [for such people] the condition will be very difficult. And the rulers [those in charge, (admins?)] witness the likes of these forbidden things and do not prevent them in any way, rather they lend support in their commission. So he who will cry, let him cry upon [the state of] Islam and its strangeness, because Islam has reverted to being something strange as it began as something strange…' [The last part is a reference to the hadith of Sahih Muslim, "Islam began as something strange and will revert to being strange as it began, so give glad tidings to the strangers." According to one explanation, '“Strange” refers to the small number of its adherents. The basic meaning of ghareeb (a stranger) is being far from one's homeland. “And will revert to being strange” refers to the small number of those who will adhere to its teachings even though its followers are many. “So give glad tidings to the strangers” means those who follow its commands.'] May Allah guide us to what is His pleasure. |
