once in the morning, and many times at night. do you find that you loose a certain amount as you sleep? so today i have "gained" about 4lbs, i have eat normal but have started to drink A LOT more water!! i am on my 4th 32oz nalgene bottle. im not worried, but typically i know i will lose weight if i gain no more then 2lbs during the day cause i loose about 3lbs overnight.. Do you find you gain a certain amount during the day? |

The scale can lie to you, do not become addicted...... read this http://www.healthdiscovery.net/articles/scale_lies.htm
weigh once a day, at the same time of day with the same clothing on or none at all, the same every time, then take 7 days and average.... or weigh once a week as above.... do not become addicted to the scale, it will drive you crazy and maybe discourage! Continue to eat right, take measurements and watch clothing get loose, that is the real truth! I hated the scale at times and it is still not my favorite thing in my house, my fridge filled with my cream and my pantry where I keep my coconut oil are my favorite places. LOL |

Arlene is right. It is best to weigh once a day and at the same time every day or once a week as many of the members do! I weigh first thing in the mornng before I have gotten dressed for the day. Your weight can fluctuate many times during the day and yes, discourage you big-time.
I don't like the scale at all and still have the old kind, not the new digital ones which tell you exactly what you weigh right down to the ounce. Measurements and clothes getting looser are real indicators that you are losing inches and the scales eventually go DOWN too! Attachment 295 |

Personally, I weight myself several times a day -- generally when changing clothes since the scale is right there.
I have collected enough data to see my daily fluctuations -- low in AM, second lowest right after work, highest after eating. I have a 2-3 pound shift over the course of a day. I use the weights as data -- helps me determine if I am doing the right things. I do not panic or worry too much if my weight goes up or does not change. Again it is data. |

I weigh once in the morning. I track it and then, for the most part, forget about it. That way I can find the patterns of my weight loss to know if there is a problem or not. I can then use my daily food tracking and see if an up tick is just normal or if my eating is off. Think of the scale as a tool, not a meaurement of sucess or worth.

I think you are weighing far too much. Use your clothes as a measure. I weigh once a month now, and sometimes forget to do it! Measurements and clothes are a FAR better guide. Do yourself a favour - weigh now, write it in your diary, and give the scales to hubby to hide until the same date next month.

I want you to think about something...... you have to eat 3500 extra calories, that is not including the calories you need just to breath and then even more to walk and do anything during the day.... that is 3500 EXTRA calories to gain 1 pound of fat. It s not easy....... Darned near impossible...... so when you see the fluctuation of several pounds in one day or over night, DO NOT register them as real, unless it is a trend that you see happening over several days or even a week. REALLY, you do not need to weigh more than once a day or if you can, once a week.
I suggest a modified version of what Odille suggested, Make it a special event for both you and your husband to take part in. He must be as excited that you are doing this as you are, and looking for ward to the progress. How about he keep the scale and bring it out once a week, the same time, you wearing the same thing and weigh. You can both celebrate the change that is happening. If there is a time when the scale shows a stall or even a gain, then take your measurements and the next week, if there is still a stall or gain, remeasure. Then you will see if you need to make changes. If you are eating less than 50 carbs a day, you need extra salt. 1/2 tsp a day (taken twice a day in water) or two cups of broth. It gives you energy, eases headaches and all sorts of good stuff........ Once you get used to including it everyday then what is in your food will not cause the fluctuations. It seems like this is all happening in slow motion and you want it to happen NOW, but this is for life... and if you are going to have children, it is for them as well as you. You are on your way to a new and healthy you.... And remember, eating fat is good! |

i have read about the broth, "Why we are fat" by Gary Taubs states you must do this, I have water retention issues (i am on water pills) so when i talked to my doctor he said if you dont have headaches dont worry, maybe i will try the salt thing for a week and see! i ate pho today so that should be enough broth!!!
![]() I know this isnt going to happen overnight, its in my heart!!! my head is a little diffrerent, i guess its harder becuase i lost so much at first and was dropping 1+ lbs a day now that it has slowed to like .3 - .8 its harder to remind myself that this is a lifestyle change (for me i need to be able to eat "Normal" and feel "Normal") some of the other posters on the other forum im on eats 6 boiled eggs for dinner almost everynight.. i couldnt nor do i want that for the rest of my life. i need to find that balance for me, thats what this journey is about.. i will loose this weight..even if it takes me 2 years! |

I didn't know that about the extra salt. I can retain water just looking at a hot dog let along eating one. I have also noticed having headaches off and on in the last month. I don't normally get them. I wonder if it is due to a lack of salt? I do use salt on my food. I figured that was enough if not too much. Hmm, now I don't know. I don't think I could drink the salt water. I went to Korea for a month, and I tried seaweed soup. Honestly, it just tasted like warm salt water. I got the first two spoonfuls down, but I almost lost it on the third one.
![]() I wonder if I added more salt if I wouldn't retain as much water? What an odd thought. ![]() |

LOL. I tried putting it on food, but it messed the food up... LOL I love to salt things but that was too much! I now take my morning vitamins with salt water and then before bed, I add my Natural Calm magnesium and salt in water and take my SlowMag (both magnesium so I don't get leg cramps). I like the taste now. Seaweed soup? I don't know if I could stomach seaweed soup, Beth! lol

Adrian, you have a lot of eating and other issues to work through, you know this and it sounds like you are doing it the best way you can. It is hard to see the loss slow down, but as you said, even slow is good. Jo stays the same for a long time and then loses a pound. Right now you are still on the downward trend and you will suceed! I am on another site, too, but came here to post first. I like it here. I am glad you joined us.
PS, yes the salt helps me in many ways, if I forget it I know it the next morning or during the day. I get headaches or no energy. |

Only that there was something that made you eat to get to the weight you are, and you are now learning to eat to take care of your body. I used to eat when I was lonely and did not feel like I was important. My husband traveled a lot and I did not feel like I was doing anything worthwile. Now I know I was, I raised our kids! As well as kept the house together, but then, I was really depressed. Now, I have a new me, I feel wonderful and have new clothes, and when people look at me I smile back, I do not hang my head. I had to learn how to throw things away, no bad food in the house and if I was not hungry I did stopped eating. I have to walk past the bread and other goodies at the breakfast offerings here at the hotel. I walk past the fruit. I know know how good a pat of butter and a TBS of coconut oil is for me.
I am happy and productive and it took me a long time to get here, but eating this way has made a big change in my life. I have learned a lot aobut me in the process. When i am home, I do not eat breakfast, I have coffeen with cream and coconut oil, and I actually look forward to being hungry before lunch. I never would let myself get hungry before.... stuff like that. |
