Default low carb cold cures
i have a chesty cold and have completely lost my voice, all natural remedies for soothing the throat all include honey and lemon and all medicines have some form of sugar and other nasties in it. I have just eaten 2 cloves of raw garlic for congestion and have a dairy free chicken and broccoli soup on to boil at the moment, now i just need something to soothe my throught and help get my voice back. can anyone suggest something to ease the symptoms that dont all send my daily carb count through the roof?

i had to have a lemsip today as i felt so rubbish, i felt guilty about it straightaway but after trawling the internet i have just found out that they contain just under 3 carbs per sachet. i will have one before bed tonight and hopefully i will be on the mend tomorrow and the scale will not have gone up!

Hi Tracy, sorry to hear you're not well. You're right, it can be hard to find things to make you feel better on low carb. But there are a lot of herbs like thyme, marhsmallow, poppy flower, elderberry flower and others you can make herbal tea with (you can mix them up and use 1 teaspoon per cup of boiling water). It would be great to sweeten with honey, but... so just use your usual swettener, or none at all. You can put a squeeze of lemon in there (vitamin c!) if you want. Also Vicks vaporub is great if you're feeling yucky, just put half a teaspoon in a small pot of water that has boiled and inhale the wapors for a while, really deeply (hold it in a little, then exhale). Or use the vaporub on your chest and throat. That's all I can think of of the top of my head. I'm sure other people will reply with other ideas! Hope you feel better soon!

hi, thanks for the advice, the tea sounds lovely, i have been drinking horehound and liquorice tea and its really bad tasting, i really struggle to drink it. i have been using thyme oil as a decongestant but its not really helping so i think it may be time to bring the strong stuff in (vicks!) i do feel slightly better today though and i can squeak at the children now, where as yesterday there was no voice much to their delight.
( is that a pic of you climbing?)
