Hi Edwin, I'm new here but to lose 50lbs when surrounded by carbs all day is truly amazing. I salute your willpower. I hope I can do as well.

Hi all!
I'm new here as well. I'm battling the surrounded by carbs too. It is wonderful that you have been able to fight the fight so well with your manager hounding you to eat. Is your manager overweight and jealous of your weight loss perhaps? I'm currently in day 10 of my low carb diet. I've lost only 1 inch in the waist so far but trying to keep motivated. Good luck finding another non-food related job with more supportive bosses and co-workers.

Go to someone's home and they never offer you celery sticks, cheese and ham cubes, it's chips/soda/sweets. Does this make being a low carber harder? Probably... but that's life. No one ever said it would be easy! But I will tell you, it will be worth it!!!I like this x

Default Surrounded by carbs
I work the morning shift at a Starbucks nearby my house. I have been there for two and a half years and have managed to lose 50 lb. using the low carb diet. The problem with my job is that so many of the food that is promoted as "healthy" and "no trans fat" is full of carbs. For example, the Chicken Santa Fe Panini has 47g carbs for the whole sandwich. The blueberry scone has a total of 60 carbs last time I checked. They used to carry some low carb options like roasted almonds but those were replaced by toasted almonds. Once in a while I will make a custom frappuccino with sugar free syrup and heavy cream with splenda to substitute but dairy causes me to gain weight. My body also seems to reject Starbucks coffee caffeine, whey powder, and bananas. In short, the Starbucks low fat lifestyle is at odds with my low carb lifestyle and I honestly will not miss all that carb temptation when I do get another job.
How many places do you visit on a regular basis that are loaded with bad carbs?
If you work in the food industry, do your coworkers treat you differently because of your diet choice?

I know my manager tells me I shouldn't loose more weight because I will be too skinny. I want to get down to 160 lb. and I am at 5"11 so I don't think that is unreasonable. Still, every day I come to work I have to battle the carb creep that says, "You must eat more!"

I'm a stay at home wife so I don't have workplace temptations... or coworkers. BUT, my house is FULL of carb-rich foods and I'm home alone all day. No one but ME would know if I ate some of the ice cream... or the cookies... or the cereal... or the crackers... or the pasta... or the bread products... or the candy that's in my house day after day after day. When I'm on plan, those things don't tempt me at all. In fact, today I felt like baking so I tried a new recipe. I made Raspberry Chocolate Chip Bars. The bar part is a shortbread, one of my favorite things in the world. They smell WONDERFUL. But I won't eat any. In my world, there are two kinds of foods... Tril Food and Not Tril Food. If it's not "mine" I don't eat it. My dh knows not to eat the last two boiled eggs. LOL He eats like I do for dinner. For b'fast (at home) and lunch (at work) he eats however he wants. But dinner he eats like me. So I don't have to cook a starch for him.

Everywhere I go... carbs. You can't go near a cash register w/o standing in a line between two shoulder height displays of candy. Go to someone's home and they never offer you celery sticks, cheese and ham cubes, it's chips/soda/sweets. Does this make being a low carber harder? Probably... but that's life. No one ever said it would be easy! But I will tell you, it will be worth it!!!

Wouldn't that surprise people if someone showed up with a roast in a crockpot instead of a box of chocolates!!!

Hey, recently, a young hunter brought a container of homemade deer jerky to our church potluck...
There are some perks to living in redneck country. LOL
