I ride English... been doing it since January. We mostly do walk/trot/canter and are working on jumping. We also do some "hunting"-type work...the stables I take lessons at are on 840 acres, with lots of trails through woods and meadows. It's beautiful out there (especially when I need a break from the dark confines of the library!).

Well, I just now got back to some concerted exercize after reaggravating my dislocated elbow and being iced/snowed in and what not.

I did about 2/3 of the CardioSculpt video before my fiance called me to talk about his parents (the future in-laws). To make a long story short, they're just now finding out that we're engaged... (-crosses fingers-)

Figured I'd try doing this, as per Patty C's suggestion.

Today, I walked about 30 minutes, and as of yesterday, I have resolved (and made good on) to take the stairs up to my office on the fifth floor of my building (4 very large flights of steps) whenever I go up or down (as well as the stairs at the library, etc.)

OK, so I haven't posted here lately...

I'm still getting most of my exercize from horseback riding twice a week... I know I need to do more, but right now, at the end of the semester, it's been hard working things in... I'm going to keep trying to squeeze stuff in here and there for the time being, but I may have to wait until the new year to get started on a really good schedule. I'm looking forward to winter break when my fiance (hoping he feels better by then) and I can go on long walks in my parents' neighborhood in Lexington, with their dachshunds (and yes, the wienerdogs, despite the shortness of their legs, can keep up a good pace...sometimes too good...) Happily, I do walk to work/class and orchestra rehearsal most everyday, so I get a moderate amount of activity, though I know I need more. Better than nothing, though.

Anyways, yesterday's horseback riding class was probably the best workout I've had so far... Surprise (the horse) was uber-hyper, and within a few hours of my lesson last night, I was sore pretty much all over...biceps, triceps, deltoids, back, abs, hips, thighs... I had a choice: get a full body workout or have a freaked-out thoroughbred gallop off with me.

I thought I'd resume posting my workouts here instead of in my progress report (so that post won't get too cluttered).

I started using exercize videos on Sunday. Most days I also walk at least a mile to class/library/orchestra/teaching etc.

Thus far, starting Sunday, 1/18/04

Sunday: Cardio Sculpt Firm Video (1 hour)
Monday: Ab Sculpt Firm Video (30 min)
Tuesday: Complete Aerobics and Weight Training Firm Video (1 hour)
Wednesday: rest (did about 5 minutes of abs, went to physical therapy for my elbow)

Wow! Look at you! Up and over. I'm impressed. I rode western style and had lots of fun. Are you doing the dressage? English style? Posting is a little complex for me. Keep up that riding. I know it burns off calories and it's fun.

Congratulations! Now the trick it to make youself form a habit of doing that exercise until you actually begin to crave and desire the sensations and feelings it brings. Increase it slowly. Don't push anything to the point that it becomes a negative effect on you.

Keep it up!

Today was my other horseback riding lesson for the week... Rode about an hour with lots of trotting, cantering and some jumping (and no falling off, always a relief)... It was HOT today (humid and near 80) so I've been drinking tons of water. Also walked a mile or so and went up and down the stairs at work (92 steps up, 92 down).

I can't figure out how to post pictures, but if anyone wants to see one, here's a link:

(In the pic, I'm riding a roly poly slow horse...been moved up to a slightly nimbler one.)

Thanks, Teuthis! I'm definitely trying to get into it and would love to make exercize a habit... I'm working on lots of habits to form... Eating low-carb, not procrastinating on work, taking the stairs, washing the dishes in the sink before they pile up...

Yesterday, I didn't get much exercize (walked about 20 minutes), but today, I took the stairs at work, will have walked about a total of 40 minutes and did an hour of good solid horseback riding (including a significant amount of posting at the trot, which, for you non-horsey people, is one of the more cardiovascularly/muscularly vigorous ways to ride...not just sitting there!).

Sore (in the thighs) from horseback riding this week... so I only walked about 30 minutes today. (Unless you also count vigorous playing at orchestra rehearsal as legitimate exercize... )

Well, I plan to do the Complete Aerobics and Weight Training video today. I haven't really exercized the past two days (was planning on doing AbSculpt) because on Friday night I tripped over a chain between two posts in my front yard (forgot it was there). I was carrying my school bag in my left hand, so I fell flat on my face in the dark onto my right arm, which is the side I dislocated my elbow on. Thankfully, I think I had enough scar tissue that I didn't dislocate it again. But it hurt a whole lot, and now I'm set back a few weeks in terms of stiffness and soreness. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!

We'll see what the physical therapist has to say on Monday (besides "Well, watch out for chains in the future!).

I hope to still be able to do the lower body parts of the video tapes, but I may have to entirely forego upper body for a while.
