Hmm...i need to read on that. So why is it an ingredient in most diet pills ??

Is it specified on South Beach as in caffeine in general or if it's contained in soda and coffee related specifically with the sugar contents or how much sugar one adds in coffee or tea ? All I know medically and scientifically, there is a rationale and caffeine's mechanism of action to it being a stimulant and by fact that sugar due to one's insulin metabolism etc is the one that causes cravings

I am open to learn though.....
South Beaach allows you 2 caffeinated drinks per day b/c caffeine stimulates insulin production and can cause cravings for sugary/starchy treats. The South Beach Diet is based around the glycemic index.

OK gotcha, it's limited amount of caffeine. As even in diet pills, caffeine is limited and regulated too by FDA. Goes with the principle: Everything should be in moderation eh.

I read on this one and it states :

Caffeine may cause problems with blood sugar control after meals for people with type 2 diabetes, according to a new study.

Although more research is needed to confirm these results, researchers say their findings show that people with diabetes who have problems with glucose and insulin control should consider cutting back on caffeine in their diets The study showed that caffeine had little effect on glucose and insulin levels during the fasting period, but it caused significant surges after eating a meal This ^^ is also interesting to note: Hence i guess your extra cups of coffee/tea you can have them on an empty stomach eh ( but of course to take into consideration it can causes gastric irritation )

Thanks for the info

Very rarely do I drink coffee NOT on an empty stomach, so I guess I'm pretty good in that regards. I may occasinally drink a cup w/ breakfast, but since I work nightshift I very rarely eat breakfast.

Ugh...I know you're right about the caffeine, but I just can't bring myself to give up my coffee, LOL I do try to limit myself to 4 cups a day (2 before work and 2 at work) and 1 large glass of tea made w/ Splenda.
That's not to bad, I wouldn't call that excessive at all. If I recall, you drink lots of water too, which helps balance it out.

In general, caffine does increase ones appetite/cravings, you are right. Our certified trainers/dieticians at Lifetime Fitness highly reccomend cutting down how much caffine is ingested for optimum results with weightloss.

And to no one in particular

There's nothing more frusterating than staying away from unhealthy foods for a few days and then discover that you've actually gained a pound or two.

I can bounce up or down 5 lbs. in less than 24 hours. I have to really watch my sodium intake as it triggers fluid buildup in my legs. When I wear my teds stockings it helps but they suck so bad in warm weather I seldom wear them. I weigh every morning to adjust my med dosage for lasix or I would balloon real bad. If we travel and eat out I have seen 8-10 lbs. in 2 days. Then I have to be good and wear my socks for a few days.
