I had sharp acute pains in my chest back when i was about 30 years old..
I guess the questions are what did you eat ? I know this will sound silly but my doctor told me it was GAS caught in that area.. I would lay on my stomach or put a cold pack and it would make the gas dissipate.. It really depended on what I ate.. It was very sharp pain chest high left side.. Not sure if this helps.. Taking stuff like Rolaids / Tums would also help.. The first time it happened I thought for sure it was a heart attack.. |

Your pain can be a symptom of many things. It can either be due to your asthma and humidity that you're not having enough air into your left chest area hence the pain. Keep your inhalers near you at all times, deep breathing exercises and have yourself in a semi-upright position while on bed by elevating your head on pillows.
It can be infection if it's accompanied by increase in your temperature and some other signs which i think is not something that u mentioned on your symptoms. Gallbladder pain is on the RUQ ( Right upper Quadrant ) below your right rib cage and when you press on the painful area then there would be rebound effect. It can affect your breathing too given the pressure caused towards your lungs and to compensate for the discomfort on that area. Pain from gas or indigestion is often normally mistaken for chest pain which Francis is right with his explanation. Hence it should be further assessed differing it from real chest pain symptoms. Chest pain related to your heart and the lack of perfusion/ good air flow towards your chest area is normally on the left side as you mention. Though our heart is on the middle, it's tip is on the left side hence chest pain is on that same side. it should be accompanied by pain with feeling of bricks on top of your chest and radiation of your pain towards your shoulders and left arm. Of course with this comes also your difficulty of breathing. Since we can only guess what you're having, its best that you monitor yourself and if it becomes worse that you go to Urgent care/ ER right away. Being an asthmatic person, you don't want your breathing further compromised by your pain. Hope you feel better soon ![]() |

I guess the real answer is... If it's unbearable than wake your mother up. People can give advice till their fingers are tired but it's all in how you feel. Take it from someone whose experienced extreme pain in the form of headaches due to clogged or broken shunts. It's nothing to fool around with.

As some people know on here I am an asthmatic. I have asthma from having pneumonia so many times in my life. A total of five in all. I try to manage my asthma but am not really worried about it because on most days I feel fine but on hot days like these I use my inhalers. Recently today I got a strange pain in my chest right after dinner. It was sharp and I guess a good word would be acute. It doesn't hurt right now maybe because I am sitting up it sometimes hurts when I breathe but not all the time but the pain is extreme and worse then I believe I have ever felt before.
It hurts mainly when I am laying down. I spent most of my time today reading a book I had been working on. It hurts a lot when I lay on my left side which kinda sucks because I lay on my left site to sleep. I read a thread written by AUDRAA that she had pain in the back of her lungs and said that it was some kind of..infection was it? And that she was on antibiotics. Can someone please help? I really feel like waking my mother up and asking her to take me to a doctor or the ER right now. |
