Default STD/HIV Testing
There was a commercial on advertising free HIV/AIDS testing in DC and she said testing should be a part of your regular health-care routine.

Have you ever been tested? If you're open to divulging extra info, do you do it between every partner or just when you think you might have symptoms?

I had an STD and HIV test about 5 years ago as part of being an outpatient at a drink and drug problem clinic. It was pretty pointless seeing I've never used needles and I was clear as expected.

I was tested right before I met my boyfriend, that was the first time I'd actually purposefully had it done. I'd had a test done once before but as part of some other medical issues.

I specifically had it done when I did because the guy I'd previously been with had slept with a lot of women before, and I thought it can't hurt to just confirm he hasn't given me anything

I have had one test done, in 2009 right before I left NZ after being in some not so serious relationships.

All clear

I have only been with my current boyfriend since then, so should hope that I am still all clear. I would probably consider getting another test done in a year or so just to check up on things.

I was HIV/AIDs tested when I was pregnant. It's part of the standard tests they do in the UK

Nope, never been tested and I have absolutely no reason to do so. I don't need a test to tell me that I don't have any STDs.

Well I don't think you can test for the Herp or for HPV - I think that comes only with symptoms. But some one tell me if I'm wrong.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea usually have pretty strong symptoms too right? Like right away?

So it's only syphilis and HIV you really are worried about...

That being said I had "the full panel" a few years ago because I had sex with a guy without a condom. He told me AFTER that he liked to shoot up with his extra money

Yeah I freaked out! But nope, I don't have anything Not that I know of....at the time I had gotten the HPV shots, and I don't get cold sores or any blisters anywhere.

I just got really lucky. And I haven't had unprotected sex since.

OH AND I got retested 6 months later and a year later. Still all good

I don't know about Gonorrhea but Chlamydia is the one that you can have for ages without knowing about and is easy to treat but because it has a tendency to go untreated, can lead to infertility

HIV/AIDS: it's not just sexually transmitted tho'. There are other means of transmission Better be safe than sorry especially if the test is free anyway

Herpes: It depends as Herpes carriers depending if they had been long time carriers can have inactive phases without the symptoms. In unprotected sex with asymptomatic ( no symptoms) partner, the infection can be transmitted . Altho' you're right that when one has the obvious blisters ( symptoms) then one can easily be tested for herpes.

If one wants to be tested with Herpes ( e.g. one was told abt it a few days after the unprotected sex with inactive Herpes carrier ) tests thru blood and spinal fluids etc can be done.

Chlamydia Symptoms are not always apparent and hence one can easily pass this to another partner without one knowing. 75% of females and 50% males can be carriers of this without symptoms. Urine tests and swabbing of genital areas can be done for testing

GC: Not all carriers present symptoms. IF and when initial symptoms occur- it's about 2-10 days after exposure.

Besides sex and IV drug use, how else can it be commonly transmitted?

You can transfer it by gobbing in each others mouthes when kissing. Also very strict rules in boxing, an HIV boxer is a no no, all that sweat and blood mixing.
