Default Why no fat on phase 2?
So, I have looked and cannot find an answer to this question. I am a "but WHY?" kind of person and I just don't get this. I understand why carbs aren't good (no ketosis), but why no fat (assuming you would still be following a 500 calorie diet)?

(I know there are more calories in fat than protein)

In Phase 2, hcg works to mobilize the fat in the body for use as fuel. Any fat you eat would be used first because it's easier to convert. So eating lean in Phase 2 keeps the fat bank moving and decreasing.

Also, part of Phase 2 is to rest the hypothalamus (evidenced by people feeling cold when on the VLCD). Part of that rest is stopping it from having to make the day to day, moment to moment, decisions of what to do with the food we eat. If it's flipped 'off' so that it's not deciding what to do with an influx of fat or carbs, then it is resting.

Thanks, Beth.

So, doesnt the body have to decide what to do with the protein in the meat and the carbs in the apple and Melba? So, the protein and carbs I eat on VLCD aren't used first?

I wish he had covered this in the book.

The carbs are quick energy. The protein is as well. It's primarily the fats that have to be dealt with.
