Howdy, gang of smart people --
My wife is on R3D4 and has gained 3.8 pounds, eating no starches and no sugars -- we read labels. Sometimes we read them aloud to each other -- it's a bonding thing : ) It's possible she's sensitive to eggs, as she had those a couple of days. So she's cutting those out. She did a high protein day according to some of the suggestions here (protein coming from steak, tuna, chicken, sausage (the type with just meat and some red pepper in it) and a pair of those darned eggs); a handful of veggies on the side; salsa; some salt and pepper. She gained a pound. Maybe the eggs, maybe not. So today is a steak day. I don't think she can physically wait until 5 or 6 to eat -- she gets dizzy, weak, headache-y, the whole 9 yards. So: is there any issue with her having steak for lunch and steak for dinner? No veggie, no oils, just steak. Thanks in advance. I come to the forums a few times a day for support and inspiration. happymeals,
when I had a steak day, I ate a HUGE steak midday with a small side salad....nothing else for the rest of the day. It seemed to work fine for me...down 2# the next day. I just couldn't wait all day to eat and then try to sleep with a slab of beef in my stomach. I found that I wasn't hungry for the rest of the day. The steak stays with you for a long time. Your wife would probably be fine eating a little earlier. Worth a try. |

first steak day, after eating a pound of steak I dont think I'm going to be able to get down an entire apple or tomato too.....especially after not eating all day. plain tea and coffee sounds ok. I'm avoiding the stevia today too. I'm only 2.3 above liw but that's up I was down .6 from liw yesterday morning so got some catching up to do.

my first steak day was a success! I'm down 2.6 pounds and that puts me just .2 above liw. I just drank a lot of water and tea and black coffee and then a grilled ny steak with some pepper and a VERY LITTLE bit of salt and a tomato. some more water and tea later in the evening and voila! I am happy to have this little tool of a steak day to maintain my weight. I don't mind if I have to do this from time to time the rest of my life if it means I will never be obese again.

I'm on a steak day today..I was up almost 5 lbs from Friday (Friday was P3D1). We'll see how it goes..tough day but shocked when I got on the scale today. I'll report my losses tomorrow! Have been drinking tea with stevia today..will stop now. I think I started going a little crazy on P3 which only began last Friday.

hey mogirl! I'm on my 3rd steak day and 2nd week of p3. I totally know about going overboard with excitement on p3. it's ok you will adjust. I am at the point of after having tried every p3 friendly food I missed during 2 months of p2, I'm kinda sick of them now and so cutting back.
I was down .7 from liw yesterday, took a 5 mile walk and retained water like a sponge and weighed in plus 3# from yesterdays weigh in (or .7 above liw) so it's steak day again today. I drank tea with stevia to see how it went. I didn't have any stevia on past steak days but did have salt with no issues in the past. let me know how it goes tomorrow and I will too! i don't really mind the steak days anymore, the first two were hard but today I didn't even care for food, even when it came time for dinner. |

I had my second steak day as well. I was down 1.6 lbs (which is double my first steak day last week of only .8 lbs) so I'm pretty excited about that. Still .6 lbs over the two lbs above LIW so I'm still not stabilizing well. I did have a JR protein shake at lunch (only the shake, a teaspoon of Hershey's unsweetened cocoa and a teaspoon of coffee) and that did not seem to cause any problems. I did a high protein day today (for the most part since I added a salad with veggies for dinner) so we'll see what happens in the morning. I'm also working out (and crazy sore today) so I suspect that there may be a gain due to muscular tearing/repair and water retention. Ayyyyyy.......

Colleen,
Can you do two steak days in a row? I am up 4.1 lbs not sure why such an insane jump. Have already done 2 steak days in week 1 of R3. Sundays steak day I lost 2.5 of the 4 then ate reg R3 yesterday but up 2lbs this am. no eggs, all foods that I could eat last P3... But I think I need more water. I also go those shape up sneakers since my muscle tone is soo low now and I am wondering if I am swelling from them. I dont feel sore at all. But I have to exercise. I cant keep avoiding it because of weight gain. I dont feel healthy and really need the exercise for stress reduction. After reading this I realize I have been doing steak days wrong but have always lost 2lbs or so. So I will clean that up today and get digestive enzymes! But can I do 2 steak days in a row? I didnt think so, so on sunday I did 1 skipped monday and today am doing another, but since I gained the 2 lbx I am back to square 1. I was so hoping to stabilize under LIW this time!! ugghh... But I did lose 29lbs in R2 and a total of 58 all together since january.. So I am grateful and just have to figure out how to stabilize. |

hey penny! that's great! I'm glad the steak day worked. I am just amazed that I could gain 3# from walking 5 miles! I would have hoped to lose some weight from that, but I didn't. After my steak day yesterday I'm now just .8 above liw, so my loss from my steak day was 2.4#'s
msmari, I think you can and probably should do another steak day until you are within the 2#'s of your lowest weight. I think your first attempt might not have been successful for all the reasons you mentioned. If you don't get enough water your body will retain whatever little water you do take in so make sure you get half your body weight in ounces of water every day. On my steak days, I immediately chug a huge glass of water when I get out of bed after weighing and realizing it's going to be a steak day. Then I make myself a cup of tea, whatever kind you like but I think yerba mate is supposed to be best, and I just keep on drinking water and tea all day long. I take it easy on the exercise too. I mostly just keep drinking and drinking and drinking so that I don't have to feel my empty stomach. I also take magnesium and that helps me "go". I would avoid stevia and salt on steak days too if I were in your situation. I find I do better if I just eat half an apple, and take a digestive enzyme too. and for myself personally seem to do just as well whether it be an apple or a tomato. If the steak day you had on Sunday was successful, then it is working for you, I would just do one more day to get yourself back within 2#'s of your lowest weight. You might have just over did it on the day after your steak day? |

Hi everyone..did my first steak day yesterday (I was only on D4 of P3)..down -4 today!!! Back at +1 over LIW..so, I'm ok. I started P3 Friday and thought I could have salad with oil/vinegar..deviled eggs, chicken brats..guess I had too much, so I'm slowing down. I'm so disgusted in the hidden sugar in EVERYTHING. I thought deviled eggs were ok, nothing about sugar in the nutritional info but in the ingredients, there is sugar. Same for salad dressing. I really don't want to have to go all over town to buy products that will work. I did go get some greek yogurt (9g sugar but natural I guess) and mixed stevia and fruit with that. I really want to lock in at LIW so I have to be careful. I also hadn't had a BM..work up at 3am uncomfortable so I took some magnesium citrate that I had for my daughter a year ago..man, it hit at 6am, didn't think I'd be able to take my kids to school! So, I'm clean out, it's a fresh start today...thank heaven for fresh starts! Steak day was ok for me..I got pretty hungry and right when I got my steak on the grill, the gas ran out of the tank..a 30 minute trip to get a new tank..I was pretty cranky by the time I ate. But, steak days work..I just pray I don't need them often!
And, I'm leaving on a cruise on May 29, two weeks in to P3 so I'm trying to mentally prepare myself. Lots of protein I guess and by then, more fats and maybe a few carbs towards the end. Love reading about everyone's journey...helps me stay focused. Good luck everyone..stay posting..there are tons of us out there reading but not always writing. |
