Default Anybody else feeling the detox?
One thing that I haven't seen much discussion of (altho I may have missed it somehow, but I have read a lot) is detox.

I am chemically sensitive and have been for about 25 years. I actually have a pretty severe case of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity; so bad it forces me to work at home. It's not unusual for me to end up getting sick when I go out because I will usually react to something. I even have reactions at home, of course, depending on what my neighbors are doing (spraying pesticides, painting, etc.) and depending on the general air quality. This is usually worse in the summer so summer has traditionally been a difficult time of year for me. I also have some mold sensitivity but my reaction to toxic chemicals is worse.

I have also been through a lot of detox and detox type of activities so detox is not new to me but I have never done anything that has made me feel this way for such a long period of time.

Anyway, since around the second week of the VLCD (I am on day 20 now), I have been going through a pretty strong detox. Feel like crap all day. I am having strong reactions to the stuff that is coming from my own body. Of course, this is a good thing but difficult to go through. I am just drinking plenty of water and sticking with it.

Anybody else feeling the detox? Are you doing anything to address the symptoms or just riding it out?

Detox was pretty bad for me, I was drinking up to 6-diet cokes a day (sometimes more)! I had the worst headaches ever and luckily I had some migraine (Maxalt) medication. My detox was pretty severe, but well worth it.

I have noticed I'm actually sleeping better now, I've suffered from wicked insomnia my entire life and couldn't fall asleep on my own to save my life. I'm now finding myself falling asleep without my usual Ambian CR. Past two Sunday's I actually took a nap, I haven't done that since Kindergarten. I've also noticed a reduction in flem [gross I know] and less whiteheads on my face. I also have way more energy and drive to do things, projects I had put off I'm now knocking them out.

Thanks for sharing, nix. It's great that you have noticed so many changes after the diet. I think that should be true of most people, especially if they are older.

Congratulations to you for sticking through this even tho you had so many problems. It is not easy, I know that.

You might want to get your cortisol levels checked (insomnia). I had insomnia for most of my life but it went away a while ago. One of the best things that's ever happened to me, BTW!

You prolly don't need me to tell you this, but drinking diet coke during detox is prolly one of the worst things you can do. You would be MUCH better off sticking to water and some Perrier with lemon. You prolly don't need me to tell you this either: giving up the diet soda is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

Again, I'm really happy for you that you're feeling so much better.
