Default Causing a stall
Hi. What would be most likely to cause a stall. Tomatoes or miracle noodles. I was the exact same weight as yesterday. Also if you are having alcohol which would be the least damaging to the diet. I am thinking vodka but don't know for sure

Thanks

I'm one of the Labor Day loaders, and several of us ran into stalls between VLCD day 18 and 21. Don't know if the food had anything to do with it, in our cases. If you read the last couple of pages on that thread, people talk about all the different things they do to break a stall.

I think the definition of a stall is zero loss for two or three days, and a plateau is zero loss for five days.

As for what food could cause a slow down, my understanding is both tomatoes and miracle noodles are fine, within the gram limit for the Dr. S. protocol. If either caused an issue for you, it could be your body reacting in some way. Did either of those foods cause a reaction on any other day for you?

On the alcohol question, I've got nothing...no advice...no idea...no clue.

Thank you for the reply. Yesterday was the first time I had either tomatoes or miracle noodles so I can't say!!LOL I was loading over labor day as well, but I couldn't seem to stick with the diet...each weekend I would blow it! so when I started again this monday with the vlcd I started out at 145.6 and today I am at 138.4(for two days in a row) My goal weight is 125 and I am hoping to get to that by the beginning of Oct. With the alcohol...we socialize alot so it has been difficult...especially on weekends which is when I screw up...have a few drinks and then eat whatever I want!! So if I knew which type of alcohol was the least damaging it might help a bit. I will check out the labor day loader thread. Still getting used to this new forum....took me awhile to even find my post!!

Stalls are normal and happen to most, if not all, of us. Tomatoes should be considered a fruit and not a veggie just to make sure you're not getting too much natural sugars. Alcohol is a no-no but if you're going to drink then I'd stick with something like vodka or bourbon. Also what you mix in that drink might be worse than the actual alcohol...so just be careful. Cheats can set you back 3 or 4 days so if you're drinking every weekend then you might start having these cheat stalls.

I didn't realize the tomatoe was a fruit...maybe I will stay away from them. Yes the alcohol has set me back...it seems ever since I started this diet we have had a family function/wedding/birthday weekend! the weekdays are good though. I don't want to start back where I was a week ago! been there...done that. I will stick with a little vodka if need be.

Thanks

Tomatoes are a fruit but considered a vegetable under Dr. S protocol. Even though they're allowed, they can cause a stall. You have to experiment. To the best of my knowledge, miracle noodles are not allowable under the original protocol. Alcohol is definitely not allowed and seems to set most people back so do it only if you can accept the consequences.

On the the stall I'm not sure, if you've had miracle noodles before without a problem I would think you body is just hitting a natural plateau and to give it a couple of days... I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but I don't think tomatoes make to many people can unless they were canned...
On the alcohol- all hard liquor has about 64 calories a shot... Don't drink those 64 calories beers, they have a lot more carbs and sugar than a shot even though they have the same calories. Don't do sugary-shots though any "shooters" are a no-no. If you're going to drink I would stick to a rum and diet or something like that- or just hard shots.
*I'm not encouraging you to cheat, but if your going to I don't want you to gain to much!*

I know that Dr S has tomatoes listed as a veggie...but it's safer to consider them as a fruit. Most don't have an issue when they have tomatoes and only one fruit that day.

I seem to stall for one day every 4 days like clockwork. Tomatoes and Oranges do it to me too. Why I have no idea.

I did do a Jay Robb shake for dinner (nothing else) and I was down 2.5lbs the next day.

Thanks Robbi. I'll watch out for that from now on. That never ocurred to me to count it as a fruit. Bummer, because that just took away one of my two favorite veggies on this diet.

I'm on day 9 and have stalled since Sunday. I was 154.8 Sunday and yesterday and this morning I'm 154.2. I'm trying my best to stay on this and do everything right but I'm getting really frustrated. I'm at the point where I want to say forget it and quit. I don't know what to do. Just really frustrated.

Most people will have a drastic slow down or stall around week 2. It happens, your body freaks from the first week drop and puts a hold on everything. Things restart though so it's not permanent. You just have to get through it. This happens on most plans, not just HCG. A stall is 4 days with no loss of weight or inches. After 4 days if you are still stalled you might want to post your menu and sometimes something little can be changed to get you moving again.

Make sure you are getting both of your protein servings in. Other foods are optional to add in or not but you can't skip those. Hope you both see a drop soon.

I have been on this about 1 week. I had 2 days where I low , like .4 loss. on both of those days I used some new seasonings. so I am going to be really careful about them. I am really keeping a food record so I know what is going on.

I stalled for almost 10 days - its totally normal, i started releasing again these last two weeks. I did cut back on my water, cut back on the fruit and limited the grissini. I head into P3 tomorrow morning. Also make sure you are taking your measurements. Even during the time I stalled, I still lost inches.

Keep the faith, it will release, when your body is ready to release.

I had a dinner 2 nights ago with Miracle Noodles, the tofu ones and the next day I was a pound up. Granted, I was working HEAVILY in the yard all day long and not drinking a ton of water like I do at work so I can't say. I've had the miracle noodles before but that was on day 3 of VLCD and I didn't see a gain, only a loss....but that week I lost 10 pounds in 5 days already.
I tend to add more of the Braggs Liquid Aminos to my food when using the noodles so I'm also thinking sodium is the culprit.

I had them again last night but the yam ones instead and gained .4 of a pound.

Oranges tip me over for sure and I'm really considering removing them from my diet. Red meat seems to slow me down too. I reached the lowest, 196, a few days ago and seem to be stuck at 197.4.

I think I'm going to cut the miracle noodles out for a few days and see what happens, I will miss them.

Oh and as far as liquor goes, stick to Vodka....1 shot is good enough but if you do or do more...make sure you add it to your daily caloric intake. If I have Vodka I usually half my protein since the protein seems to have the most calories.

Just joined but love this site so far! I have had 2 stalls in 2 1/2 weeks and I am so glad to see it's not just me. I was getting discourage because friends & family were losing 21+ lbs in the first 2 weeks where I've only lost 9.8 lbs. I just did an apple day again yesterday because I stalled so we'll see what happens tomorrow with the scale. The first apple day I did for a stall, I lost 2.4 lbs.

Thanks to all of you for your great info!

Sorry it took so long to get back to you! An apple day is where you eat 6 large apples, drink minimal water only to quench any thirst, for one full day. Dr. Simeons advises doing it from noon to noon. The first time it worked for me but the second I gained .2.
