Tea drinkers, beware. New research showed that drinking too much black tea could lead to bone loss and dental problems. 1 liter of black tea contains 9 milligrams of flouride. Normally, flouride helps prevent cavities but long term ingestion could lead to advanced skeletal fluorosis, a disease caused by excessive fluoride consumption and characterized by joint and bone pain and damage.
The safe amount is 2 - 3 milligrams daily (from toothpaste, fluoridated drinking water and food). So be sure to only consume 2-4 cups of tea a day to prevent bone problems. Source: Medindia.net |
