Default Why dieting is so hard?
Why do you think dieting is so hard on other people? Why do some people can't commit to their diet? I read an article at thefamilygp.com and they listed the top 10 reasons why some people choose not to lose weight:

1. I can’t resist temptation
2. I’m too busy to exercise and prepare healthy meals
3. I’m happier as I am
4. I lose weight but it just creeps back on
5. My appetite is too big
6. I’m not feeling up to it
7. It’s my natural body shape
8. I’m an emotional eater
9. I am big boned
10. Healthy foods don’t fill me up

Do you think these are reasons or excuses? what are your thoughts in this?

It's funny.. I used to say these things before.. It is hard to diet especially if it's your first time. But once you get used to it, it won't be as hard. They just have to endure it.

I asked my aunt, my cousins, my friends this question yesterday and their answers were:

I can’t resist temptation
I’m too busy to exercise and prepare healthy meals
I’m an emotional eater
I am big boned

What are the odds right? My reason before was I lose weight but it just creeps back on. I'm so glad it's no longer the case. Dieting requires commitment and discipline, if you don't have them, you won't succeed.

The one who controls his emotions and love to be a foodie.. can be well oriented about the facts to be in good diet. A healthy diet is important for so many reasons. First of all, it can help delay the aging process. It can help keep us physically and mentally active well into our senior years. It can prevent cancer and diabetes and cardiovascular disease. It can help our eliminatory efficiency. It can give us more energy and help prevent fatigue. It can help grow healthy nails and skin and hair. It can help the healing process. It can improve our immune response and on and on it goes

I agree.. Being healthy has so much more benefit than being overweight. I'm sure they knew that.. Maybe they haven't reconciled their mind to the idea of a restricted diet..

I think that it depends on people, but the hard fact is that no one wants to fail, and the fear of failing keeps some people from even trying. If you dont try you can´t fail. Simple as that. And why some people do fail or lose interest? Well dieting should not be looked at as a project or a hobby. In order to stick on a diet you really have to reconstruct the way you live and your habits. If you make it a project, odds are that you at some point will begin to lose interest and then fail in the long run. Just my thoughts.

I definitely agree with you on that Henry. Losing weight isn't easy. I have been there and it was a struggle too because I had to change my lifestyle and eating habit. I was so into junk foods and fast foods so much and cutting it was a pain. I know I cannot completely turn away from it so I am doing it slowly. I am doing better and crave lesser food in between meals, exercise regularly, and drink more water. I hope to drop more weight soon

Sometimes people find it hard to lose weight because they cannot get rid of their sweets and junk foods. Sometimes they are also too lazy to exercise. They think that it is okay to be over weight because it doesn't bother them or the people around them. Maybe we are looking at it in the wrong way. We have to realize that being obese is unhealthy and we are jeopardizing our body. Why not exercise regularly, eat right, and live well? If we are healthy, we are able to do more and maybe keep away from illness.

I guess diet is hard for some people because they believe they are giving up their favorite food. It's a struggle for them to control their portions, not eat the foods they like and either don't have time to exercise or think exercise is a pain.. I agree with sasa.. They have to be emotionally and physically ready before they go on a diet. Otherwise, it's just a wasted effort.a

"I'm happier as I am" We want to live happy and hate the thought that you will have to sacrifice for something.

Right . When I started dieting I have that feeling too that I don't want to sacrifice and forget the food that I enjoy eating so much. I guess it's a matter of how badly you want to lose weight. If you want to lose weight to have a beautiful body then you will most likely fail unless you want to lose all the weight for health purposes. I think people will be more motivated to lose weight if it's for the purpose of staying healthy and preventing sickness and diseases.
