Hi all, this is my first post, I've been low carbing for two weeks and have had some amazing results so far, this forum has helped me a couple of times and is a great site, thanks.
I have a question as I've discovered a nice dessert - Low sugar Jelly (Jello for US members) and Peanut Butter (ok not exactly a dinner party dish but I'm a kid at heart and it tastes great). The question is whether or not you think this would be a suitable low carb dish, the Jelly is low sugar and the Peanut Butter is Whole Earth with 3.2g net carbs per 100g (three listed ingredients, Roasted Peanuts, Palm Oil and Sea Salt). Is Palm Oil a hydrogenated fat? I can't find much on it on the web, any thoughts? Thanks Matt |

Hi Matt... welcome to the forum and congrats on your first post!!!
Are you doing Atkins? If so, nuts and nut butters aren't acceptable in the beginning. You can add them back in later on as you increase your carbohydrate intake in OWL (Ongoing Weight Loss) phase. When you DO add it back, it suggested that you use nut butters that only contain nuts... or nuts and salt. I doubt that the palm oil would be TOO bad, but it will up the calories/fat grams in the PNB. It's probably in there to keep the PNB from separating... like all natural pnb does. Palm oil isn't a trans fat unless it says partially hydrogenated palm oil on the ingredient list. It's a saturated fat. How are you doing? Are you losing? Feeling better? How much do you need to lose... tell us about your journey!!! ![]() One thought to leave you with... we all need to discover what works for our own body. If eating this PNB works for YOU... enjoy it. If you find your wt loss stalls, you might consider eliminating the pnb to see if that's the reason. It's really a big science experiment... so don't be afraid to experiment! LOL |

Thanks for the info on the post Tril and for the interest in my journey.
I'm broadly following Atkins and have been very impressed with the results, it certainly feels like I've discovered the missing link in my weight loss, my mood has also improved significantly. I'm losing approx 1lb every 2 days at present and clothes are fitting me better than ever. I'm out of induction (lost 8lbs) hence the nuts and now I'm gradually upping my carbs very slowly. I did eat some chocolate during the induction (more by accident than craving) and experienced terrible side effects - that sealed any desire to revert to old habits. I have 21lbs to go for my target and -14lbs will mark my healthiest weight in 5 years, I expect to reach the goal in one month and will post some 'before and afters' at some point. Love the site and thanks again. Matt |

Hi, Matt!
Sounds like you are doing great! I love equating the reaction of our own personal body to the different foods we eat as "One big science experiment." Indeed, it is, and we all have different results! Keep us up-to-date...I, for one, am always motivated by newcomers experiencing success! Toni |
