Hi!
This is the 3rd time I have done Atkins, and the 1st time I have ever experienced a problem. Last week, I entered Ketosis and noted a rash on my hands and wrists. It looks like Keratosis Pilaris. It is worse in the early evening than it is first thing in the morning or mid-afternoon. It also seems to improve with an increase in water intake. It does not itch. Antihistamines and Hydrocortisone Cream makes it appear less red, but it does not disappear. It looks painful, but it is not. It is localized on my hands and wrists. It is so weird. Has anyone experienced something similar whilst in Ketosis? Thanks in advance! |

If it is KP, I doubt it's diet related. KP's genetic. Most references I read say it's common on the back of arms and thighs. Not one mentioned hands. Most said that KP is itchy, too.
Have you been exposed to a new cleaning product, or bought a new hand soap recently? Have you done any painting... or a new hobby? Just looking for something that might cause a contact dermatitis. Those mostly itch, though. Have you consider going to a dermatologist? Tril |

For lack of a better comparison - it looks like Keratosis Pilaris. Yes, I did go to my doctor. My doctor says it is not Keratosis Pilaris—although it does look similar. It is not itchy—which is contra to the symptoms of Keratosis Pilaris. My doctor suggested stopping Atkins altogether, as he is not a fan of it. My doctor also said that I may have idiopathic skin condition—advised me to drink more water and gave me the Antihistamines and Hydrocortisone Cream. The skin issue, however, has improved with an increase in water intake and the longer I am in Ketosis. I have not changed cleaning products. I do not have a new hobby, or doing anything around the house, i.e. painting. I am not allergic to any food, or drink. Yay idiopathic skin conditions! |
