Default I am not losing weight. HELP
I have been on this diet for two months. The first month I lost 14 pounds, I was at 254. Now at 240 I am no longer losing and havent for approximately 4 weeks. I have tried other diets and excersize and have never lost weight on any of them. Has anyone had this problem or know what I should do if there is anything? I am told that I could be metabolically resistant to losing weight. I also need to mention that I excersize everyday and I am way into Ketoses (I use Ketone sticks), and there is no inch loss or more energy.
Thanks for any and all help. Kelli

Hi Kelli! Welcome to the forum!

Before we could possibly make suggestions it would be very helpful to know what you're eating each day. What... and how much. Are you logging your food intake, counting the carbs... or just "winging it"?

If you're willing... jot down a day's worth of food/drinks. If you're counting carbs, list those, too!

Common "issues" we see that might influence wt loss...

Medications
Medical conditions (like diabetes, PCOS, etc)
Age
Food intake (you CAN overeat and stop wt loss while keeping carbs low)
Food sensitivity (esp dairy)
Water (as in, not enough)

Double check your meat, cheese, cream and fat servings sizes. Make SURE you're eating enough veggies.

We can help... just give us more info!!

Also, fwiw, I lost the first two weeks and then stalled for 17 weeks. Literally. Yes, I can be very determined and patient. LOL

Thank you for responding. First off when I say I am way in Ketosis the pee stick is brown...the darkest it can get. I have no medical problems, no medications, I drink my eight glasses of water a day. I am living with three atkins experts that are appalled at the fact that I am not losing..because I am eating less carbs than they are. Today I had 2 egss and 2 sausage for breakfast (0 carbs), for lunch I had a salad and turkey (4 carbs), for supper I had a salad and a meat patty with a slice of cheese 4 carbs) and for a snack I had an atkins bar and have been drinking water throughout the day. This is a typical day. I also walk about 1 mile a day. I am 31 years old. Kelli

The first thing I would suggest is ditching the Atkins bar. I'm not sure we've EVER had anyone on his forum who could eat them and lose. Atkins assumes that ALL of the sugar alcohols are not digested/absorbed. Most low carbers will tell you that at least half of them are... so that net gram count on the package isn't really accurate in reality. Technically, it is... in the human body... not so much.

Re: ketostixs. Darker readings aren't necessarily a good thing. It can mean you're dehydrated... it can mean you're producing WAY more ketones than your body needs. Excess ketones spill over into your urine... and into your breath. When are you testing??? Is it your first pee of the day?? Anything other than that isn't worth doing... if you eat a high fat meal (like eggs/sausage) the fat in the meal will be digested, metabolized and will produce excess ketones. A dark reading isn't indicative of BODY fat being metabolized. It could be either. So test first thing in the morning... before you eat. The stix are good for one thing (for low carbers)... if you get ANY color change, it means there are ketones in your urine and you're in ketosis. There aren't levels to ketosis... you're either "in" or you're "out". Kinda like being pg... you either are, or you're not. You're no more pg at 9 months than you are at 9 weeks. See what I mean?? So your color change is good... but darker is not better in that sense.

Another suggestion... eat more veggies. You only had 8g carb today?? That doesn't meet the minimum for veggies. You need to eat 12 to 15 net grams from veggies alone. Less isn't always better... don't cut back on your veggie carbs. You need them. You need the veggies. What are you going to do when it's time to move on to OWL if you're not eating at Induction level yet?

If I think of more... I'll be back. LOL

Hi Tril -- I'm curious about your 17-week stall. Looking back at it, do you have a guess at why that happened? I know that one of your common themes is getting the right amount of foundation carbs/vegetables and enough water. Is that how you'd attribute the stall now?

Thanks --
Guy

Nope... I don't know what caused it. I was drinking the water, eating the veggies, maintaining at Induction level. Occasionally I would have 25 to 30g in a day. It was strange. My wt didn't fluctuate up or down by more than a pound or two the whole 17 weeks. Since I was feeling so good... had plenty of energy... was eating well... I stuck it out. Maybe it was related to hormones, or maybe it was just my body needing to stay at one wt for a while. I don't know! Today marks three weeks that I've been back on plan after an extended "vacation" from taking care of myself. It will be interesting, as I lose what I gained, to see if this happens again.

Thanks -- funny how the metabolism has a habit of bringing you back to reality all the time.

By the way, I was on a 1-meal "vacation" the other night, in virtually unavoidable circumstances. I was invited to a Hindu celebration (a Ganapati arati), which I've been to many times before. The food is always awesome, but carb-loaded. In this case, I did eat something before going, but like any good celebration it started late and dragged on a bit. Dinner was almost three hours after we arrived.

I had to skip most of what was served -- until I figured out that one dark-looking dish was shredded red cabbage and peanuts (for crunch). I also had some raita-looking thing, made of yogurt, cucumber and diced tomato, and I did sneak about 2T of dal.

I think I'm back to normal today
