Default new here, day 4!
Hi I am new to the forum, but have been reading it all for 4 days...
I started Monday Jan. 12...
yesterday, day 3 was weird, had a good work out, 30 minutes of aerobics and some ab work...but later felt dizzy queasy achey...must me the induction flu. I just chilled the rest of the day (lucky to work from home)
last night my own yucky breath work me up! LOL! several times...whoaaa it is ishy!
I am 49, female 5'7" weigh in at 197 (OMG I can't believe that number)
my goal is 135...
I gained a lot after death of a loved one, hysterectomy...and oddly enough liposuction!!! (anyone want info on that just ask me!)
Wish me luck, no other diet has helped me in the last 4 years, so I have turned to Atkins...kinda hard to make myself believe all this fat will make me thin, but I will report back on next monday with my weight to see how it is going.
thanks for all the great info on this site...so far very helpful!!!

Question; is it possible to lose maybe 30 lbs in 2 months? I was soooo happy at that weight! I feel I have 60 total to lose...

Hey Cozmik... welcome to Atkins and this forum!

The dizzy, queasy, achy feeling can be "treated" with lots of water, some high fiber carbs (vegetables), protein with fat (like cheddar or a boiled egg) and vitamins/minerals. Make sure you're taking a multi-vitamin daily. You'll feel tired and have less energy for workouts until your body starts producing the enzyme necessary for metabolizing fat. That takes 3 to 4 days in most people. You'll feel better soon.

You asked if it's possible to lose 30# in 2 months. Hmmm... yes, possible, but not likely. With 60# to lose I would GUESS that you'll lose 8 to 10 in Induction (first two weeks with the most lost in the first week). The 2nd, 3rd and even sometimes the 4th week can typically be "slow" weight loss weeks. Then it will average out to about 2# a week. Women will lose slower than men. We have less muscle mass, less bone mass and different hormones. Check out the weight loss challenges... in this forum... and look at the weekly reported weight losses. You'll see that the men lose more and much faster. The women, who are losing, are in that 2# range. And, the lower you go, the slower the weight loss. A goal of 8-10# a month is a reasonable goal for women, IMHO.

So... good luck and come back often. I'd like to hear more about your liposuction experience.

Tril

So, losing 10 pounds in the 1st week of induction is not a good sign, right? I've been worried about this... and I think is time to see the doctor... I feel ok, but it's just too much...

SWB... this is a quote from the Atkins site:

"Is it dangerous to lose weight very quickly?

When you start the Induction phase of Atkins, you may experience rapid weight loss for the first time in your life. Don't worry. What makes the initial drop dramatic is that you lose a good bit of water weight in the first 3 to 4 days. That's because eating fewer grams of carbohydrate results in fewer spikes in blood sugar, resulting in less insulin output. Insulin makes the body retain sodium, which, as you probably know, makes your body retain water. When you're not producing as much insulin, this cycle slows and the effect is like taking a diuretic. After four days or so, however, you will also begin to lose body fat. Young men and people who have a lot of weight to lose are more likely to lose weight more rapidly at the start of the Atkins program.

Losing weight too fast is an issue only if:

1) You're not eating enough, which could make you lose lean muscle mass. To lose only body fat, be sure to eat regular meals and take in adequate calories. If you aren't hungry at meal times, have a small snack with your supplements. Also, drink at least 64 ounces of water every day.

2) You feel sick, weak, dizzy or fatigued. If you lose too fast, especially at the beginning of the program, you may be experiencing an extreme diuretic effect. This could deplete you of water and also some electrolytes, which contain sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. Signs of electrolyte depletion are muscle cramps and heaviness in your legs when climbing steps. You may need to add more vegetables to your meals to slow down weight loss and add a mineral supplement to replace lost minerals.

But if you feel well and aren't starving yourself, you're probably not losing too quickly. If you have just a few pounds to lose, you might slow the pace so that you can continue to learn good eating habits before progressing through the phases to Lifetime Maintenance. Simply move to Ongoing Weight Loss and increase your daily intake of carbohydrates by 5 grams. If you are within five to 10 pounds of your target weight, move into the Pre-Maintenance phase and increase your intake gradually, in 10-gram increments, until weight loss slows to about a pound or two a month. However, if you still have a lot to lose and you feel full of energy, simply feel good that you are dropping pounds easily."

If you feel okay, all a doctor is going to tell you to do is eat more. Or, worse... don't do Atkins.

But, make your own decision on this. If you feel something is "off", by all means, listen to that little voice in your head.

I eat a lot of veggies, fresh fish and good quality meat.

I've just finished my lunch and I had 2 salmon steaks, steamed broccoli and a salad (of cucumber, tomato and olives). I think I'm eating healthy...

And since I begin Atkins I just couldn't eat once. It was yesterdays lunch. But I snacked throughout the day...

I'm also drinking a lot of water (100 oz a day).

Thanks, Tril!

Hi Tril,
I feel better today, it was yesterday that was rough!
I have been eating my vitamins, I fill a 64 oz jug with H2O and a capful of lime juice...I drink it easily plus more usually!
Used a colace just to be safe, feel awsome this morning...

Breakfast; I have usually 2 eggs, scrambled on olive oil, with 1/4 or 1/2 avacado on the side and 2 TB of tomato (from a can with green chilis...1/2 C of this is 5 carbs so I feel safe with the 2 TB)

Lunch; chicken sauteed' in olive oil with garlic, thrown on fresh spinach or romaine with 1/2 small chopped roma tomato, feta cheese and parmesan with caesar dressing(about 2 carbs worth of dressing) 5 black olives!

Dinner; hamburger mixed with fresh chopped spinach mayo and topped with green onions!

snacks are cheddar cheese, or sliced ham, plus a chai tea with cream and 1 pack of splenda!

headache gone today and feel great...but day 2 and 3 were ishy. I hope to lose at least 20lbs in 2 months then if the 30 is unrealistic (going on vacation)
