Well FWIW most likely if he is tried and convicted he will be turned over the PA the next day anyway where he can convince Arafat of all the things he didn't divulge. I suspect that a great deal of what Arafat has been doing these past months is rearranging his organization specifically so Marwan Barghouti can't give up any useful information. In either case he is probably completely marginalized whether he sees a conviction or not.

Oh there are lots of reasons. Threats, promises of different/better treatment, quid pro quo against the charges, plea bargaining and so on. That's what modern legal systems do. It doesn't have to involve torture as you allude to. |
