Default Best albums of 2009
So what albums did you guys enjoy most last year? My top 5 would be, in no real order:

Silversun Pickups - Swoon
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
Baroness - Blue Album
Japandroids - Post-Nothing

Honorable mentions:
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Brand New - Daisy
The Dead Weather - Horehound
The Flaming Lips - Embryonic
Mew - No More Stories / Are Told Today / I'm Sorry / They Washed Away // No More Stories / The World Is Grey / I'm Tired / Let's Wash Away

You just made me realize I do not listen to recent music.

I can't wait for Black Light Burns' new studio album though.

I've never heard of them, to be honest. Anyway, my list might be subject to change as I start listening to more music or start to appreciate the albums there more or less. But I think the list is pretty solid atm.

I'll start working on a best albums of and artists of the decade lists later.

Wrath by Lamb of God
Infection by Chimaira (A dip for them, IMO, but still good.)
Black Clouds and Silver Lining by Dream Theater (I haven't heard much, but what I've heard is brilliant.)
Pray for Villains by Devildriver (Again, a dip, but still good.)

I would like to point out that I have only bought one album released in 2009. I doubt there are ten albums I liked. Terrible news, IMO.

2008 was pretty good, just because NiN released five albums.

Only one I bought is Swoon, but that's because I can't seem to find the others anywhere(Mew, Japandroids, Brand New) or they're relatively new listens for me (Flaming Lips, Animal Collective.) I'm planning on picking up It's Blitz and Crack the Skye soon though.

@ Guile:

Since it seems you're big on metal, you should definately check out Crack the Skye, Blue Album, and Converge's "Axe to Fall."

Blood Mountain + Leviathan = No more Mastodon necessary.

Blue Album?

Axe to Fall a new release? I've got one of Converge's albums, I think.

Blue album is by Baronness, I mentioned it in my first post. And yeah, Axe to Fall is a new album they released in '09. It's no Jane Doe, but it's still better then the stuff most metal bands put out. Also I like Crack the Skye. Granted it's no Blood Mountain, but I still think I'd give it 3.75/5

I'd like Muse more if they didn't make me want to go listen to Radiohead. Granted, Muse are quite a bit better then most of the bands who mime Radiohead, but still.

looking through my music the only 2 albums that I bought that I thought were really good were 21st Century Breakdown and Chickenfoot. I really liked 21st Century Breakdown.

Muse are alright, I even own Black Holes and Revelations, but nothing they've made is in the same league as OK Computer or In Rainbows. I suppose saying they're ripping Radiohead off is unfair, but they're quite clearly heavily influenced by them. At the very least, I think we can all agree that Matt Bellamy sounds a lot like Thom Yorke. Though to be fair, tons of bands have singers that sound like him.

Also, because I'm lazy, I'm gonna post my favorite albums of the decade here instead of making a new topic:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Radiohead - In Rainbows
The White Stripes - Elephant
Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas Toward Heaven
Beck - Modern Guilt
Silversun Pickups - Swoon
Converge - Dane Joe

For me the best albums from 2009 was Nazxul - Iconoclast. I looked through my music colelction and i dont actually have that many new releases from 2009 so looks like i need to go back and look at what was released then. I guess the new Immortal and Gorgoroth were good compared to what else is out there but i expected so much more from them that i dont consider them to be that good. But all in all i think it was a pretty crap year for metal. 2010 has already been exponentially better and its not even half way through yet.

edit: OMG HOW COULD I FORGET SUNN O))) - MONOLITHS AND DIMENSIONS!!! That album is amazing
