Default Your Top Ten bands who you feel have left the biggest impact:
I got this idea from this topic. So, instead of dragging that topic off of what it was orignally about I thought I would start up a post where we name our top ten. Now these are not our top ten favorite bands, they are the top ten bands that you feel left the biggest impact on the music industry:

MF's Top Ten:

1) The Beatles(from chart topping singles to record breaking album sales, to concept albums to "psychalrdic album covers" to listing lyrics on the cd jackets to new recording technology which let them use sounds not possible outside the studio to new instruments/innovations like the sitar, piccolo trumpet and timbres to double sided singles to creating their own movie to beatlemania the Beatles have left one of the biggest lasting impacts on the music industry, ever. Like them or hate them)

2) Elvis (original sex Icon, influenced the style of a decade aswell as the Beatles and millions of others)

3) Michael Jackson (made the music video famous, made a dance move famous*moonwalk*, best selling album of all time)

4) Bob Dlyan (placed an importance on lyrics, very innovative and different sounding from most bands of his time and the first person to ever "cross over" from accoustic folk music to electric to christain and country)

5) Buddy Holly (forward thinking insturmental lineup*guitar, rhythm, bass, drums* he was one of the first singers(of his time) to write his own material and was the first to use the "hiccup style")

6) Fats Domino (played piano and sang more restrained in style*compared to little richard* influneced such artists as Elton John and Billy Joel)

7) The Beach Boys (The first real boy band Changed their musical style with "good Vibrations" which was a milestone in the development of rock at that time and their growth closley parrelled the creative growth of the Beatls' "Sgt Pepper" album)

8) Chuck Berry (His solo instrument was equal to his voice. He influenced jimi Hendrix and set the model for rock and roll with his gutiar style and "duck walk" Wrote songs that speak to teen society about cars, girls, school and growing up)

9) The Rolling Stones (Were music's original bad boys. They formed a counter image to the beatles. The Stones brought a darker side of rock into the open. Which featured drugs, sex, violence, the occult and suicide. They helped set into motion a trend of groups trying to out shock, and out repulse eachother which still remanes to this day. Have been around for 40 years)

10) The Red Hot Chili Peppers (Always changing their style. Many claim the RHCP were the starters of "funk" music. They were known for their sex obsessed lyrics. Made national attention with their "ghost story" while recording Blood, Sugar, Sex, magik in a mansion. Even brought in real ghostbusters to check out the house. Then they hired manager Rick Rubin. He insisted on airborne melodies and filtering the rhythmic rumble down to only an important essence. Two singles from the record: "Give it away" and "suck my kiss" established a template of rock which is punctuated by beat-centric relentlessness of hip-hop. This would later be used by everyone from Limp Bizkit to Dr. Dre. Later changed their style again to what was forshadowed by the success of the single "under the bridge" which is a softer more mature style of rock that is even being compared to the Beatles and the Beach Boys in terms of hooks rather than Backbeats, and a good balance of guitar grime and high art aspirations. After influencing two different generations "funk" and "rap rock" the band keeps trying to improve themselves

Well that is my top ten. Now it's your turn =)

10. Led Zeppelin - Considered the greatest rock band of all-time. I may not agree with that, but these gus revolutionized rock n' roll and WERE the 70's rock n' roll.

9. The Beatles - Without The Beatles, the world would never have seen Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Rock in general.

8. Elvis Presley - Do I need to describe why?

7. Bob Dylan - This guy has written some of the greatest songs of all time (including Knocking On Heaven's Door)

6. Guns N' Roses - This incredible group, while lasting about a decade, made the most incredible, emotional, and hard rock tunes of the Eighties and early 90's.

5. Motley Crue - The BAD boyz of rock n' roll. The infamous group have broken every rule in the book, and have gotten away with it.

4. Rolling Stones - Who doesn't like Paint It Black, Satisfaction, Sympathy For The Devil, and Start Me Up? The alternative to The Beatles were definitely counter-culture rock!

3. Nirvana - Although I'm not that big of a fan, these guys revolutionized the industry from Hair Metal to Grunge.

2. AC/DC - Brought America to the HARD ROCK age. They battled Disco, and every other music fad that America followed, yet always brought the U.S. back to rock n' roll. Australia's greatest export gave the world Back In Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Thunderstruck, TNT, and Highway To Hell

1. Beastie Boyz - Brought all the white people into the rap industry.

In no order (too hard to say between some of the bands):

Led Zeppelin
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Nirvana
Jimi Hendrix
Michael Jackson
Black Sabbath
The Ramones
Elvis Presley
Bob Marley

I think I only said a couple bands that someone didn't already say. But I guess there isn't that much of a difference of opinion on the topic of biggest impact. Some of them are almost facts.

For me... I'd day my top 11(In no particular order):

Rolling Stones
Bobby Dylan
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Black Sabbath
Metallica
AC/DC
Guns N Roses
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
The Beatles
Rage Against The Machine
Led Zeppelin

I dont think any of those bands deserve an explanation, they basically started or ended eras of music. And if you look at bands today as their influences you will see these guys floatin' around in them.

Later oN
