King Of All Ebonies is right all you did was say how rap has no talent and noting else.
I can't say I hate rap and I can not say I love it either. However I like most every kind of music because I have a well open mind and will listen to whatever that is playing all but some kinds of music that my mom might be playing on the radio but that's a whole other story. All I have to say is Rap isn't all that bad infact if you listen to it those who rap are just raping about every day things either in there life or what happens on tv and whatever else they see. Rap can send a powerfull massage just like any other type of music can. |

I can listen to all music but no music artist is less talent then the other except the ones like ashlee simpson who don't write their own songs, sing their own lyrics, or even play an instrument. Serious myself I don't like rap that much but i wouldn't call them no talent bums or that rap sucks. Metal is pretty annoying to me to but I don't say their bums because they scream alot. Myself I like country but i'm sure many of you will tell me that their just singers with sabby lyrics and a wide vocal range with a few of them that play instruments but that's my preference. No music is crap it's just not like by all people.

I meant mainstream bands. I like the occasional obscure band but I meant as in what I see on the music channels. The vids, singles, hot selling album. That's why I addressed the "trends" a.k.a. mainstream music. POP music is bound by trends. Watch FUSE, black/death metal (again, mainstream) is EVERYWHERE. Find me one metal video off Headbanger's Ball that doesn't have "the growl". I think Megadeth is the only one. When all mainstream metal has the same vocal style...that's a trend. I watch loads of metal shows and all I ever see is black/death. I consider it mainstream when Ozzfest is taken over by the genre and all music shows have black metal featured on. It's mainstream for metal. So it's not like I could see Britney Spears and Jamey Jasta doing a duet. I guess I should have made that clearer...ay. Pretentious rap is the Millenia version of pomp metal back in the 80s where everybody had to have solos and have the big hair, etc. No individiuality applied to rock bands. Just corporate, conformed music that blended in with the current trends.
Rap has meaning and I give it credit for that. I have occasionally listened to Tupac and you know what? The lyrics aren't ridiculously senseless or pretentious trying to attain an image of sociobliss captured by misogynistic behavior or drug use that's been corporately etched to appeal to insecure teens. Eminem...sucks. Media's lil' rap whore. The "unloaded gun" incident. Now he has some video that tells me to vote. Oh, and stop it with this stupid "Vote or Die" crap. Let's be a lil' less corny Mr. Puff...ay? I'm not going to be influenced by some shallow rap star whose only appeal lies in his image...k? And rock is absolute shitty-shit shit shit. Feelings of desperation and angst ride the rock radio shows to hell. And now black metal is a fad. Great guitar work but again, corporate-influenced music. Now everybody has to do the evil death voice from the bowels of Hell. Two extremes- I'm not depressed and I'm also not satanic (or at least I'm not trying to look that way/lie to myself)....so I'm fucked basically. The only listenable/great bands today are (creating new music).....Megadeth, Black Label Society, Motorhead, Velvet Revolver and the occasional prog band. As with all music genre trends, this one (rap) is much of the same...here's my theory: We started off with good 50s rock by good (my vocab has so much depth, aren't you jealous?) artists. Jerry Lee Lewis ruled with piano rock! Then the 60s with the infamous acid rock trend....but with good artists. Then Black Sabbath created metal in the 70s and it was looked upon as solid material and became a trend to explore other aspects besides "peace n love". 80s came and Metallica ushered in speed metal with "Kill 'Em All". No most metal bands were influenced by guitar solos and record labels blew their load for any metal band while the market was hot. As a result...many shitty bands and Bon Jovi came along and it all went down the shitter. Until.....Guns N' Roses debuted with "Appetite for Destruction" in 1987 that was a kick in the mouth to hair metal community. Their trend (semi-rebel, leather attitude) became big and now we have Skid Row and a host of other metal bands carbon-copied by this trend that again, range from shit to fantastic. Nirvana and Pearl Jam bring forth "alterantive rock" in the 90s that becomes grunge. Great artists that put effort into their material. However, the most popular metal band, Guns N' Roses break-up, now leaving the market vulnerable. This grunge movement ensues. However, it downplays the importance of guitar solos and music with mostly optimistic themes. Now bands are encouraged to follow the same trend. Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain kills himself and now we're fucked because the pop music community is littered with bands but one of the major founders of the trend is now dead. Grunge evolves into "shit" punk rock with material that flirts with a "cute, teen pop attitude" and some that goes into a place of desperation that not even "kill me now" Nirvana ventured into (lack of intensity from L Park.) With rock sucking mucho cock and lacking intense emotion so many teens/young adults feel, the attention shifts towards good rap artists like Tupac. As a result, more rappers have oppurtunities with the teen market open for excavation. Then Tupac and Biggie die so we're stuck with pretentious rap theta depends on image over material. So it's like 1984 all over again. Pretentious Rap = Pretentious Metal And...in order for trends to change, talented artists need to be in place to usher in eras with strong material. [IE. Rock will not come back because 70s cover band JET is now playing simplistic riff rock] |

i involved myself in a similar debate on another forum so as to not waste my time, i will cut and paste my previous statement here: [this really is stupid. rappers use rock beats a lot of the time nowadays and, correct me if i'm wrong, but a lot of crappy nu metal bands came out in the late 90's-early 2000's that were rapping over dumbed-down rock music(ie deftones, ratm(the only 2 good bands of this genre of crap), limp bizkit, korn, linkin park, and other mindless garbage). if rappers can be accused of stealing anything, it would have to be someone else's style. most rappers nowadays aren't really that original and get big because of their connections. as far as rock is concerned, the only thing anyone on this board seems to know about rock is what's force-fed to them during their daily diet of emptyv and radio. i see people on here who claim to be "punk", but can't talk about any band older than green day because they're oblivious to the fact that the music style has been around since the 70's. then you've got all the people who's only comments are "rap sux" and other such bs. you really are simple and close-minded individuals. i bet you're all a bunch of little kids who just follow whatever little klique you hang out with. well i think my little rant should put things in perspective and maybe we'll can see some more open-minded conversations on this board.] note to all: the topic this was discussed in was suppose to be about rappers stealing rock beats. it pretty much escalated into a "rap sux" "rock sux" bs. maybe some of you could learn something from my statement and we'll all be better off for it. and i don't intend for this to start some kiddie bs flame war. these are MY OPINIONS. as we all know, opinions are like assholes: everyone's got one

Honestly, I had no idea black/death metal was mainstream. Guess I don't watch enough MTV.
Oh well... what isn't mainstream these days? It seems it's mainstream being anti-maintream, and it's anti-mainstream being mainstream. Fuck... listening to Morbid Angel is more mainstream than listening to Nelly, as the anti-mainstreamism has become mainstreamism. People want to be different, so they listen to music that's supposedly different and not mainstream, although they're all the same, listening to the same music... man. I'm confused. Can someone explain to me what's mainstream and what's not these days? Moose: I don't really see what's so great about Eminem's constant whining. Jett and Cjel suck.
Seriously. You guys do. Not all rappper talk about ho's and money. There are rappers out there with talent. And why do you guys hate on Eminem and Kanye? Is it because the two of them together have probably sold more than most of the guys Cjels sig combined? You guys can hate it all you want, but Rap, Hip Hop, and R & B pretty much dominate the music industry. Atlanta has pretty much taken over. Why don't you guys choke on that for awhile? |

To each his /her music stuff... Music I don't like ,I just tune the radio elsewhere, change the cassette-CD or lower music level on a game's sound menu...you love rap, death metal.... good!!!
Just several rap tunes I stand listening to them on radio ,just because they are funny-listening : -Tone Loc (Wild thing, funky cold medina) MC Hammer (Can't touch this) the dude who did "Sexy Ladies" (Shaggy ?),Eminem ("Without me(?)" i don't remember the song title)... For rap music,I'm more of a rock-metal type,I used to listen early Rage Against The Machine and the former Ice-T metal project(I don't remember their band name...oh well.. Body Count! ) Otherwise I 'm no fan of gangsta stuff,Sean Paul (when at work there was the radio, couldn't stand Sean Paul),Nelly...To each their tastes,I respect everyone 's tastes,my girlfriend listens to country ,I'm just more tolerant!!
