Riff - Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple

Solo - Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. Yes it's not a true solo since he played it a couple times then took the best parts out of it and put it together, but meh -- it rocks.

Peace.

Default Best Riff/Solo
I am curious to know,, what do you guys think is one of the best guitar riffs, or solos in music history? For my money, the STP "trippin on a hole in a paper heart" riff is just sick, it just doesnt end. Also, Mudhoney's solo in "in and out of grace" is classic. im just wondernig, got any other over looked guitar solos or riffs, that maybe arent so obvious, but are just as good as anything Hendrix, Nirvana or anyone did?

Crazy train - Ozzy Ozbourne - that riff is timeless - masterfull guitarist that Roades was.

black sabbath - nearly everythign they wrote...they invented the 'metal riff' - but mostly iron man, children of the grave, blakc sabbath, sweet leaf, the wizard, snowblind -

these gusy get their songs covered right up to this very day, and theres eben 2 full albums of pure metal bands payign tribute to them - some include metallica, megadeth, biohazzard, and much much more.

Led Zeppelin - alot of kick ass riffs - namely whole lotta love and black dog!

solos?

mr.crowely - ozzy
war pigs - sabbath
stairway to heaven - led zep
no more tears cover - black label society
master of puppets - metallica

theres alods of stuff., but im hard at rememberign things.

AC/DC Riffs are awesome.
cKy has alot of sick riffs.
Jimi Hendrix was CRAZY so I have to put him.
Guns n Roses had a few.
Stone Temple Pilots also had some great riffs.

Most of the bands have several so I didn't go through and list each individual song.

best riff: just about anything written by Tony Iommi(Black Sabbath) John Schaffer(Iced Earth) and Dave Mustaine(Megadeth)
best solo: Tony Iommi's solo in the live version of "Wicked World" from Black Sabbath Live At Last/Past Lives

Rather than best I'll say my favourites

Riffs:

Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes To Midnight
Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Black Sabbath - Iron Man
Metallica - Some Kind Of Monster
Metallica - Seek And Destroy
Metallica - Master Of Puppets

Solos:

Dream Theater - The Glass Prison
Guns N Roses - November Rain
Metallica - One
Metallica - Master Of Puppets (interlude)

They were just some off the top of my head, there are loads more but I don't want to make a huge list.

Meh, Eruption was a bad ass solo..... but it isn't as great as everyone thinks it is IMO. I mean, I can play majority of the solo and I'm not nearly as good as him. So, yeah..... Distortion.... Half of these solos aren't all that great, but they sound awesome but of their amps/pedals. Anyway... onto the topic.

Riffs: Deep Purple- Smoke on the Water
Jimi Hendrix- Castles Made of Sand

Solos: Jimi Hendrix- Voodoo Child
Zeppelin- Stairway to Heaven

Now, I only put two because you asked for best riff, not a whole list of them. But there are plenty more.... I hate to put Jimi Hendrix on there twice, but he was bad ass....

Peace....
