Default Grounding
I don't want to sound stupid...but I am new at all of this..I still have a lot of problems with meditation and don't feel like I am doing it right. But that isn't my question. I have read several posts where people say that it is important to ground yourself. What does it mean to ground yourself and how do you do it? I hope this isn't explained in another post...I have been looking and can't seem to find anything that explains it, just suggests that you do it.

Thank you lemongrass

Christina

There are no silly questions
The internet is full of people searching
Because there is no one around us to answer our questions
Or because the people around us would not like us asking

I personally open the top of my head, like a double door
And pull white light down through my body, down to my feet
Then spread it into the ground like tree roots, and I do this three times
Then I close the top of my head

Other people will use different methods

Hi Christina as has already been said there is no such thing as a stupid question. If you have a question ask, the stupid thing is not askibg believe me I know. Laura's meditations are great and I personally use them all the time like so many others. Enjoy your experiences and if unsure ask, someone will always answer.
Laura or someone will answer much better than me the meaning of grounding and how important it is to do this. I would probably make you more confused lol.
Blessings

Thanks those that recommended my classes on grounding

While it is good to ground out your entraneous energy, the other reason to ground after a meditation (sometimes before). is because meditation raises your vibrations. If you don't ground (bring your spirit back into your body so to speak) you will be spacey, clumsy, mentally fogged and more.

Grounding is needed because we are human. Though we are also spirit, these 2 should be balanced. Our spirit needs our body to exist on this plane and our body needs our spirit to remain alive. You can then see why having a balance between them is extremely important. If you live too much in the spirit (or doing too much astral travel or OBE) you will disconnect from body and this can cause illness. (delusions, psychosis, etc)

The same for the opposite is true. If you ignore your spirit within, harbor all the pains and emotional stresses of the body without letting the spirit free to breathe and fly, then you will ultimately kill your spirit self (depression, fatigue, anger, etc)

Hope that helps

I'm also new to the forum, and starting out on my spiritual journey. I've been attending my local spiritulist church for a few years now, and will be joining an awareness class in September. I've done some awareness learning already, but I find it very difficult to imagine, visualise etc and I also wonder if im doing something wrong. I am more aware of spirit, but I am unable to communicate in any way. Your not on your own in your thinking ;0) for me it's a slow process but very exciting, good luck with your journey x

Hi Christina,

firstly what you need to ask yourself is "What do I expect to gain from doing a meditation? Meditations are a passive exercise with the intention of slowing our minds and body down to make us feel relaxed. Using this form of meditation to contact the spirit world would be impossible. Although it should eventually help prepare us for using our clairaudient and clairvoyant faculties because we will be used to sitting in the quiet.

Now, I do understand a number of people refer to the word 'meditation' when they intend to work on a spiritual level so it is easy to become confused which is why we need to know what our expections are to be before we start. Should our intention be to communicate to spirit as a medium then we need to become active with our thoughts and forget about all things physical so as to raise our vibrations, so with continued practice spirit can blend their energies with ours.

Back to your question on grounding. This is a personal decision to make and we have to use what we feel is right at the time. My own thoughts are that after a good number of years of working with spirit energies, grounding is an unnecessary exercise. My reason is because as soon as we lose our focus on a spiritual level we instantly become grounded to the physical world.

Again, I realise people use the same words for doing different things. Now, using the earths energies makes complete sense, as we do have to learn to blend the univeral energies together to become as one energy. Some people imagine themselves as a tree and ensure the roots of the tree are firmly held in place by the earth and allow the energies to flow through their bodies. Now i'm not knocking that technique, if that's what feels right for people then no one person can say it's wrong.

If I may be as bold as to suggest that what is of more importance is that we take control of what happens to us after we have finished working with spiritual energies, by learning to close down properly. Going about our daily activities and being insistent with an unknown spirit or energy by refusing to acknowledge them until we are prepared to work with them again. As soon as our focus is with them they may well take advantage of this opportunity and until we learn to act responsibly they will continue to pester us, and we may become ill etc and then we blame the spirits for what we have failed to do.

Sorry for the lengthy post.

That's where we vary Skye. Being a medium, I never close down. It's not possible. Boundaries make it less noticable, but I am always in constant contact with the Other Side. We can turn it down, like volume, but never shut it off.

I agree as mediums, Laura we do indeed differ, but hey that's ok. I also know we don't shut off from our psychic abilities and should people want to, they can and will pick up energies from people around them 24/7. I personally choose not to work on a psychic level as a psychic medium.

As psychic and spiritual energies differ greatly, and as a spiritual medium myself, I don't want to make contact with a spirit communicator whilst doing my daily chores or whatever else that may be happening with me. So I know by my own experience that people can close down from the spirit energies, if this was impossible most mediums would end up seriously ill if not insane, and no medium would choose to pursue mediumship at all.

I was taught in my initial basic and awareness classes that I am the one in control of my mediumship and that is as true today as it was then.

I believe that most misunderstandings between people who are interested in spiritual work comes about due to a play on words and describing each method of working. Which is why one method may be better suited for one person whilst another disagrees and that's more than fine by me.

Thank you for asking this, Christina. I'm new to this as well, and I now have a better understanding of what it means to 'ground' ourselves. Thank you to lemongrass as well, for referring us to the thread that teaches us more about grounding.
