Yes MarkM these videos you posted are very beautiful and awe inspiring, however I find the most intriguing aspects to this new science when interference patterns are studied. Some examples of interference patterns in Cymatics can be seen in this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05Io6lop3mk When I think about these concepts it reveals to me that it is not any one instrument in the band that is of more importance than any other. In fact it is the contrast or interference of the two or more waves of sound that make the overall essence of the music they are playing. This would also mean that it does not matter exactly what genre of music it is you listen to, what matters is how well those musicians harmonize and contrast with one another. This being said I believe much of the Metal genre is in extreme contrast, however there are few Metal Bands that harmonize using those beats and tones common in Metal. Easy listening music may be easier for the musicians to harmonize within, thus making it easier to listen to. I think it's the ability of the musicians to create the ambiance of sound which is important, rater than the types of sound they use. This also can lead to how our music is judged. Such as we start with the base of the drums, then the base guitar adds to the beat slightly contrasting it, then the rhythm guitar includes even more contrast, and the lead guitar add more and finally the singer tops the contrast with them all. Creating a sound, and allowing us as listeners to be moved by the harmonies we hear. Now and then when I see her face She takes me away to that special place And if I'd stare too long I'd probably break down and cry |

Feeling pensive at this late hour, and would like to share something of music; in the sense of musical people actually making all the music in real time, rather than programmers taking the reins, digital building... number crunching out of tempo of time - which is catching us unawares, sometimes...

I have been meditating to the music of HERB ERNST for about 20 years now.
Although from time to time I also use binaural beats, solfeggio frequencies and others, I just always come back to Herb's music as nothing else aids in bringing me to such a deep state and with that spiritual experiences. Shirley MacLaine has used his music in most of her videos. He hasn't put out a new album though for a long time until recently. After listening to it, I felt a desire to write to him and tell him how grateful I was for the music he produced and what it has meant to me. He wrote me back describing the production of conscious music in a way that I had never fully understood before. I asked if I could share what he wrote; here it is: "Thanks so much for sharing your experience of my music with me. It's nice to know that there are people who understand and appreciate the kind of music I work to create. I use music as a tool to put me into a place of spiritual presence; speaking just for me, nothing else seems to do as well. My intuitive understanding of music is that, like consciousness, it is vibrational in nature and therefore can be tuned to different frequencies. By creating music that is ultimately God-focused and/or God-centered, as we develop a resonance with this kind of music, so too, do we build a resonance with Higher Consciousness. This process, I find, is restorative to the body, mind, intuitive self and soul and, as such, differs from much of the music we hear nowadays, since much of contemporary music, I feel, vibrates at frequencies and energies that don't resonate with our Highest Good -- and this expresses itself in our culture, as our culture reflects our level of spiritual awareness. (As a species, we have a ways to go, don't we!) Over these years I've encountered many methods of music that incorporate different mechanical systems that are proffered to help the listener to attain a higher state of being (e.g., binaural hemi-sync beats, solfeggio frequencies, DNA music, music based on planet Earth's resonate frequency [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schumann_resonances], the Mozart Effect, ringing crystal bowls, harmonic overtone chanting [i.e., singing two notes at the same time], drone single-tone chanting, singing a Mantra-like repetitive sequence of notes, etc.), but ultimately, these mechanical systems don't work (at least in my experience) unless they are inspired, created and energized from an active point of love. To actually create music that helps the listener to attain a higher state of consciousness, the composer-musician has to consciously, intentionally and deliberately love every note AS THE NOTES ARE BEING PLAYED IN REAL TIME -- i.e., "love energy" has to be radiated into the playing of each and every note. It isn't simply playing music; instead, it's a psychic-emotional process of finding a resonance with God and then expressing that resonance through the medium of music. Once this psychic/emotional/spiritual state of heart/mind has been achieved, the particular mechanical system used to create the music becomes secondary. With this in mind, a spiritually attuned love-powered shaman beating on a hollow log to enable a listener to entrain with the Heartbeat of the Earth can be just as effective (if not more effective!) than a fully equipped but only mentally-powered symphony orchestra trying to evoke a positive response from an audience. In summary, music is about the HEART, not the INTELLECT. This is why we hear so much mentally brilliant but emotionally sterile music that ultimately leaves the listener unmoved and unfulfilled. And that's why your statement "I realize that the frequency of emotion that YOUR music brings to me has no comparison" takes on a special significance to me, since that is EXACTLY what I'm trying to achieve in the creation of my music." ~Herb Ernst herbernst.com available on ITunes |
