To add to the list of great books on spirit guides and such (there are so many):

"Spirit Guide Contact through Hypnosis" by Bruce Goldberg. It has TONS of exercises - you'd probably want to have a tape recorder or digital voice recorder. But it also has a lot of cool information about various types of spirit guides, and it lists the traits of higher guides vs. lower guides.
