Default Meditation with music?
Hey there!
I wondered if anyone uses music to meditate?
I have cds in my house of music especially put together for meditative practice and it says on the cover, "for focusing or allowing images to come." (I paraphrased that.)
Being that I have not yet enjoyed a session with the music, I wondered if any on here like that type or do you get annoyed by the sounds, preferring total quiet?

I'm thinking that since I love music, this would be enriching. Ah, if only I could get some quiet alone time to try it!

all my guided meditations I put to music. Typically Native Flute since I have an enormous collection.

Otherwise I use Osho

I don't find any irritating really. I love all lucid dreamy stuff

If you want to try mine, the link is in my signature and they are free.

As Laura says Native flutes are great, or something I have listened to for a while is buddhist chant music.
also if you like the sound of the ocean or rain etc play something like that in the background or perhaps a smooth soft drum beat with flutes.

Have you tried meditating in silence?

Yes. But, being that I am usually so busy with someone around the house needing my attention, it's been a little more difficult to find that moment to let the mind go into that state. I try then I get jarred out of it. I was thinking that Pure Meditation, Pure Tranquility, or Pure Healing would set the mood/ tone. I have not yet tried a musical meditation.
Music, from my earliest age, has always stirred my imagination.

There is your problem then. It's not what you're listening to, it's that you are not allowing yourself personal time with no interruptions.

This is important for your soul growth and well being. Please make this time for you even if it's 15 minutes to start with. I do a lot of Ipod meditating in the bath or even when my "family" think I'm in the bathroom for other things lol.

YOU NEED YOU TIME! They can survive 15 minutes without you.

I agree, you need to MAKE time for yourself, no matter whether you are listening to music or doing it silently if you are interupted you wont be able to fully relax, youre always going to have a part of your self knowing that you will be interupted. I have a homemade sign, that I pop on my door it stops my nieces and nephews running in half way through.
MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF

I find I can only meditate with cds that have the music very subtley in the back ground. If the music gets louder I am snapped out of meditation as I find it blocks me. Just my opinion.

i always meditate with music because the people i live with are very loud... one of them is 14 years old and if you ask her to do anything she will do the opposite especially when you aske her to be quiet! lol i used to be like that... but my favorite type of music to meditate with is something with like raoin or little birds chirpping through the backgraound of a light breeze of some sort because i have always felt a connection with nature and animals... everytime i walk into the woods and sit on a log or rock and take in the beautiful green trees i just feel so calm and centered.

i use music when i meditate..it kinda helps my mind just flow and wander to nothingness from the sound of the flute or the piano..guided meditation helps my brain what and how to think..

Okie dokie.
I did a little music meditation to Pure Enchantment. I put it on my mp3 player and relaxed for about 10-15 minutes. Refreshing. I can't wait to try my Forest Raindrops cd!

For music to meditate with I highly recommend Seven Metals Singing Bowls Of Tibet by Benjamin Iobst.

Its actually alot easier for me to meditate with music.
See, even in everyday life, music puts my mind at ease when I'm not meditating (even nonlyrical)
So it just helps me even more : )
