Absolutely!!
Midsummer! Also know as Litha, this solstice holiday is the longest day of the year and the shortest night. The earth is at its most fertile, and life is bursting out all over (yes, even here in the Northeast). The goddess, in her role as Mother, is pregnant with the child of her consort, the sun god, and the whole world blooms with her. This is the best time for magickal work for abundance, fertility, and any kind of growth. If you can, try to celebrate outside amidst the glorious outpouring of nature’s glory. A SIMPLE SUMMER SOLISTICE RITUAL At this time, when the earth’s gifts are so openly displayed, take the opportunity to give back a little. Instead of complicated ritual, why not plant a tree for your Mother? If you have a place of your own, you can plant one of the traditional witchy trees like oak or willow. If you don‘t have room to keep a tree, donate one to a local park, or send money to the Arbor Day Foundation and plant something small at home to symbolize your gift. Take a moment to give thanks for all the gifts of the land—and be sure to clean up after yourself. After all, your Mother is watching. If you want something more magickal try: You Will Need: Summerbeach Yellow candle and appropriate holder Oil (such as grape seed or olive oil) Gold sparkles Damp paper towel Small solar-themed offering/craft In advance, create a small solar-themed craft to use within this ritual as an offering. Perhaps you can create a picture, collage, embroidered sachet, mirror with decorations, beaded design/jewelry. To begin, cast a circle or create sacred space. Make sure you have all your supplies and pre-made craft with you. Start by verbally recognizing the day and its meaning, “ Oh great Earth Mother & Father Sun, The Wheel of the Year turns once again Tis’ the Summer Solstice . . . A day brimming with power and a night dripping with beauty I am here to celebrate you!” Next, take the yellow candle and rub oil around its length. Sprinkle the gold sparkles over the candle, letting the oil catch them to stick. Place in candle holder. Whip your hands with the damp paper towel. Say, “Below & Above - a peak of energy, He shines His rays upon Her womb Where warmth begets life, Summerbutterfly Alive! The flowers, the trees, the animals, Alive! Butterflies fluttering, Magick is afoot!” Light the candle and take a few moments to meditate upon the meaning of the day. Reflect upon your journey thus far during this Wheel of the Year. When you are ready, present your offering. Then say, “I present this gift, a token of love And ask that you purify my life . . . For this is a time of renewal, good health and blessings! Please let your ever flowing cauldron of goodness stream over me! Earth Mother & Father Sun, I thank you. And so the Wheel of the Year turns once again. . . Forever your daughter/son With love and devotion. Blessed be!” Finally, use the remainder of your time to write in your Book of Shadows. You may want to follow with a “feast” of sunflower seeds and a cool drink. Close up your circle or sacred space in the same fashion you started this ritual. |

Lovelight . . . I am so glad you posted this. I have for years made mental note of summer and winter solstice as they passed, but have never thought of having a ritual to mark it. I did a little research on-line . . . but had a hunch that PM would come through with info on this one!!
![]() I am thinking of doing a summer solstice ritual with my 10-year-old daughter and making it a little more kid oriented . . . should be fun. Let us know how your ritual goes if you do one. |

I had the idea this year to celebrate solstice by setting a resolution. No one ever seems to stick to the New Year's ones, and I never actually make any because by the time Mercury retrogrades my life falls apart anyway. Summer solstice is about renewal, so it just makes sense to me. I still haven't decided what my resolution is yet, but I just feel like it's the best time for me to make a small change.
