Not only does Mercury retrograde at 1 degrees Gemini( it's native sign) from the 14th May to the 13th which will cause all sorts of issues with daily transport, short journey's, communication, transactions comerce , then in Tauruss from 13th to 30th May which can cause delays and/or hiccups ith ones personal income or posessions, and professional, practical outlook.
To top this off just 2 days before Mercury begins to move forward once more, Neptune retrogrades at26 degrees Aquarius.
Fortunately to lighten the retrograde load, Saturn turns direct at14 degrees Virgo after being in retrograde in Virgo since December 31st 2008.

Blessed Be
Lorinda

I'm quitting too, Sophia! Using the patch as well. You are not alone. Yesterday was the first day my husband and I made it all day without cheating.

Ugh... I hate Mercury retrogrades... especially as a Gemini...
Hopefully it doesn't mess up the plans I have for early June...
Putting my head in the sand for the month of May... wake me when it's over!

spacecadert)))))))0 I am on day 13 and have not cheated....dont let me make you feel bad for cheating..... this is my fourth try at it .. I am a lot older than you and have smoked a lot more years. I have to quit i coudlnt walk from my office to my car without gasping for air and hitting a inhaler , and then still gasping for a bit..

trying to bring in groceries was a respitory nightmare. I had no energy at all and I know it was the cigs....... I made up my mind I am quitting this time sent the call out to the universe to send me a guide who helps with addictions to keep me focused and positive .

Today I went to bank , library and grocery store...carried them in ..put book away and the groceries and havent gasped one time. ...so i see a major difference in less than two weeks. Two weeks ago I would have been gasping so bad I would have talked myself out of library and store and came home to lie down.

If I cheat with just a puff I am like a heroin addict I will smoke the rear end out of a carton of em. lol

I am hoping in time this will also clear up some of the metaphysical things I cant seem to connect properly to. Maybe I wont be weeding through a cloud to get to my goals. spirit has been sending me messages for years that they NEED me to stop. Stubborn wench that I am woudlnt listen...now I am listening....I am partially of the belief that they have been causing some of my troubles to MAKE Me quit...if this is so I thank them as I feel better today thann I have in 2 years. no wheezing ..no sinus problems... more energy WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO
good luck to you honey.. we can both do it ..........

sorry Polgara to put all this in your thread honey...I am just so excited......wont say any more.. I promise

LLL:

astrology.com gives a great description

As a rule, retrograde planets mark a period of seemingly inevitable or fated events that relate to their sphere of influence. Unresolved issues from the past tend to rear their heads. Retro phases present us with a series of events over which we seem to have little or no conscious control, relating especially to the sign in which the retrogradation occurs. For example, Mercury retrograde in Gemini (variety; sociability) awakens quite different sets of cir***stances from those generated when he retrogrades into Taurus (security; material pleasures).

A retrograde period is best seen as a cycle, beginning when a planet begins to slow to a halt before travelling backwards through the zodiac, and ending when it returns to the point where it first paused. However, during the cycle, a planet's energy is most powerful (and more likely to generate critical events of universal importance) when the planet makes a station: appearing motionless in the sky.

These stationary periods occur near the beginning of the cycle (when the planet first halts as it prepares to move backwards) and midway through the cycle when the retrograde planet slows to a stop before moving forward again. The direct station (when the planet halts before moving forward again) is the most powerful and can be used for maximum benefit.

Many astrologers consider that the "Mercury Shadow" begins between two and three weeks before the actual retro station (on April 23, when Mercury passes the point of direct station for the first time in this cycle). This has some justification, but I am more inclined to think that the really noticeable peculiarities begin when Mercury slows significantly, a few days before the retro station. This period of "Mercury Shadow" extends to the Return date, something under three weeks after the direct station. Bear this in mind, because experience shows that the effects of the retro period are still marked during the "shadow" phase. Some of the most characteristic annoyances often occur just after Mercury makes the direct station, while he is crawling forward before picking up speed. these are a few of the common problems associated with a mercury retrograde (also from astrology.com)
Mercury retrograde gives rise to personal misunderstandings; flawed, disrupted, or delayed communications, negotiations and trade; glitches and breakdowns with phones, computers, cars, buses, and trains. And all of these problems usually arise because some crucial piece of information, or component, has gone astray or awry. hope that helps!

The easiest way to explain retrograde motion:

"Like when you are on the freeway and going the same speed as the car next to you and suddenly, the car next to you slows down - it looks like it's going backward because of your perspective, when it is still moving forward on the street itself. Planets act like the car next to you when viewed from Earth. The seem to move backward from one constellation (sign) into the previous, when they are still actually moving forward in their orbit."

That was just retrograde motion. As for what retrograde means differs planet to planet, the sign the planets are in, and how that affects each sign is also different.
