I climbed part of the Cuillin ridge on the Isle of Skye, in the snow and rain, and I hated it while I was there - I was so scared.
But afterwards when I got back down from summitting Sgurr Dubh Mor, and back out of Corrie Grunndae I looked back at it. The white mist that had surrounded us on our way up parted and the luminesence faded to show me just exactly what I'd done. It put a lot in perspective that day for me. I felt so good about myself - a kind of feel the fear and do it anyway moment. I'm glad the mist was there on the way up though, I thought it was just an easy walk - the glowing whiteness about me gave me no sense of the scrambling up the steep rocks (I hate scrambling) that I was about to encounter. I remember getting to the top of the ridge and asking where the ridge was - I expected a grassy path, but no, it's not called the Black Cuillin for nothing. I was the most miserable I remember being physically, cold, wet, tired and scared. But afterwards, the elation so made up for it. Definitely had a dancing elephant moment. El xx |

Go up in a hot air balloon, once my eyes were prised open and I was forced to look at the amazing view it was out of this world. Its like you're just hanging there and everything else is falling away. Being above the clouds and seeing the tops of the mountains poking through was eerie. The sunrise was spectacular. I did it for my hubby and I'm so glad I did as it is one of my precious memories.
Janjan PS: ElectricBlue .... a good friend of mine lives on the Isle of Skye, have you heard of SkyeFaeries. |
