Volute from Paganpath wrote this in response to a question I asked about anti-aging skin-care: font table class="MsoNormalTable" ="background: oldlace none repeat scroll 0%; width: 100%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%" tbodytr ="" td ="padding: 3pt; width: 88.84%;" valign="top" width="88%" p class="MsoNormal" ="font-size: 9pt; font-family: Tahoma; color: black;" First let's talk about the essense of wrinkles. When an oak tree is young, with its smooth gray bark, we see the promise of a regal oak, the hope of strength and endurance, the maiden, a young whip with the energy to shoot up, and hopefully make something of itself. As the tree begins to mature, its bark becomes more furrowed, less flexible, and takes on a character of sturdiness; that potential for strength and endurance is being realized. No doubt an oak sapling has not the character, charm, or even magic of the mature oak. Potential yes, but it has not yet stood the test of weather, time and challenges. Aging, and its byproducts such as wrinkles are testaments of our endurance, our loves and laughs, our sorrows and pain, our lives. On that note, living our lives well will produce better ibarki. Your face, and skin in general, reflects how you live, your diet, sleep, stress, exposure to air and sun, etc. It should not be the goal for us to bypass our natural aging process. The cycle of life always turns, and by moving with that cycle, we live in harmony with nature. We cannot freeze ourselves in the maiden phase, nor the mother, nor the crone - we cannot do this in any way, emotionally, spiritually, bphysicallyb. On the other hand, premature aging is also against the cycle, and disharmonious with nature. There are several things you can do, and plants that can help you stay in sync with time, keep you looking joyful, viant, glowing; illuminating your potential, realized potential, or wherever you are in the cycle. Sleep on your back as much as possible. This may be easier for women if you place a pillow under each knee. This prevents your face from being smashed every night, causing premature creases, and eventually wrinkles and lines. And for goodness sake, sleep at least eight hours a night. Eat well. Seriously. Stop putting it off and just eat bat leastb five servings of vegetables a day, and at least one fruit. Sure organically grown is great, but V-8 juice is still beneficial if that's all you can get or all you have time for. Broccoli, carrots, cooked spinach, tomatos, figs, blueberries and other nutritional powerhouses are good places to start. Phytochemicals such as anthocyanitins and flavones from berries, or carotenoids from other fruits and vegetables are powerful anti-oxidants that prevent free radicals from doing damage to your skin (and the rest of you). Relax! Meditate, pray or conciously relax at least once a day. Relax your facial muscles to help prevent worry lines. Wear sunglasses to protect from UV and prevent squint lines. Keep the stress levels down to prevent your body from releasing chemicals that send your body into overtime and cause premature aging. Relax your mind, body and spirit regularly and your mind, body and spirit will be infused with energy. Nuts to you. Eat nuts and seeds daily, just a few. They are high in Vitamin-E and numerous antioxidants that boost your immune system and give you a shield against premature aging (and maybe some cancers). Best ones? Almonds and walnuts, but peanuts and sunflower seeds are great too! Even sesame, poppy and other seeds are great. Allergic to nuts? Try ripe olives, avocados, or paw paw for similar benefits if you can eat them. Most importantly! Protect yourself from the sun. Some sunlight is good, it helps you stay healthy and keeps your body stocked with Vitamin D, but sun on your face will make you look old, FAST. That includes tanning booths. They are not safe. They will cause your skin to prematurly age. You don't look that much better with a tan. Just stop going. Don't lay out. Period. Herbs and other natural ingredients can help to repair some sun damage, prevent own spots or age spots and mottling, slow down your collagen loss and plump the collagen you have and prevent future damage. Ingredients to give a closer look. bRose hip oilb: Small molecules penetrate skin, not as greasy as some oils, has anti-oxidant properties to fight free radicals in the environment. Use as part of your base for lotions, creams and balms, or use straight as you would a serum at night. bGrapeseed oilb: Similar anti-oxidant and fine textured properties of rose hip oil. bHempseed oilb: VERY high in linoleic and gamma-linolenic acids- both proven to improve symptoms of psoriasis and atopic eczema, dry skin and other dermatitis. Can also help prevent new pimples from forming. Use small quantities in your bases and preserve well with Vitamin E. bOlive oil, shea butter, jojoba, avocado oil, almond oil and many other natural oils are great candidates for your daily skin care.b bFrankincense (Boswella)b: Boswellic acids from frankincense inhibit inflamatory enzymes, reducing puffy under eye bag appearance, and preventing injury (lines, wrinkles) to the skin caused by inflamation. bGreen Teab: A fantastic anti-oxidant. Used internally and externally. For external use, try making a very concentrated infusion and adding it (about 20-30% to your favorite astringent) or get the finely powdered tea used for the formal tea ceremony (Matcha) and add to your soap recipes, shampoo, facial scrub, masks etc. The fine powder makes a nice gentle exfolliant. bBlue algae and seaweed extractb Contain anti-oxidants, some help boost collagen, some are anti-inflammatory. Overall, prevents the degradation of skin's extracellular matrix. bSoyb: Again, inside and out, a great all around ingredient. Externally, the genestine in soy works as a powerful anti-oxidant. bRosemaryb: Another anti-oxidant, but also an anti-microbial. Plus, rosemary is an anti-inflammatory - preventing skin aging- injury and wrinkles, from inflamation. bSea Buckthornb: Powerful anti-oxidant inside and out, plus Vitamins E, A and C. bAloeb: Often overlooked, but a great stand-by. High in polysaccharides and anti-inflammatory, it helps prevent wrinkles and protects skin. Use as the water part of your bases in shampoos and lotions or creams. Or use straight as an astringent before moisturizing with a night serum. bTumericb: Great anti-oxidant. bNeo heliopanb: A natural essential oil, also known as Octyl Methoxycinnamate is a great UV-B shield, without the allergin troubles of PABA. Use about 5%-7% by iweighti in formulas if you know what you're doing. No more than 7.5% weight ratio. Don't mess with this if you aren't sure about what you're doing, it imay bei estrogenic, and the base you use is critical to avoid excessive transdermal absorption. bZinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxideb Fantastic physical UV-A and UV-B shields. Use 2% to 20% by iby weighti of either or both in combination. Titanium dioxide can go up to 25%. A better safety margin than neo-heliopan for sunscreen beginners, but some experience is still required to work with these ingredients. You must have a clear understanding of formulas, working with fine powders, and have a scale that will measure iat leasti to the tenth of a gram. p p class="MsoNormal" ="font-size: 9pt; font-family: Tahoma; color: black;" Anyway, there are some things you can look into more, maybe experiment with, and have fun! !--[if gte vml 1]v:shapetype id="_x0000_t75" coordsize="21600,21600" o:spt="75" o ![]() filled="f" stroked="f" v:stroke join="miter" v:formulas v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0" v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0" v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1" v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2" v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth" v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight" v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1" v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2" v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth" v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0" v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight" v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0" v:formulas v ![]() o:lock v:ext="edit" aspectratio="t" v:shapetypev:shape id="_x0000_i1025" type="_x0000_t75" alt=" ![]() height:11.25pt' v:imagedata src="file:C:\DO***E~1\client\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml 1\01\clip_image001.gif" o:href="http:www.paganpath.comiB_htmlnon-cgiemoticonssmile.gif" v:shape![endif]--!--[if !vml]--img src="file:C:%5CDO***E%7E1%5Cclient%5CLOCALS%7E1%5C Temp%5Cmsohtml1%5C01%5Cclip_image001.gif" alt=" ![]() ="" !--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-- ="" !--[endif]-- ="font-size: 8.5pt; font-family: Tahoma; color: rgb(64, 64, 64);"o ![]() ![]() td tr tbody table ="color: rgb(0, 127, 64);"font size="3" ="font-family: comic sans ms;"font |
