as promised, here is an update on my friend dave (aka chippy).

he is now allowed home at weekends to his mothers house. my brother and i arranged a visit last sunday. i am pleased to report that mentally he has made tremendous progress, no speech problems, but tires easily. upper body is fine, but his legs are still weak and he does have balance problems. i'm sure that this will improve with physio over time. his eyesight is not as good as it was and he is going to have glasses for the first time.

he remembers nothing of the incident, but has no other memory problems. i took the opportunity to ask him if he had an o.b.e. he said that he didn't have one in the traditional sense, but did have some very interesting dreams. a common one was that he was on some sort of aircraft and that he kept asking when they were going to land.

i don't know if it was destiny that he has recovered, but we are all grateful that he has with such success.

Default NDE - the Proof of Extended Human Consciousness?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7463606.stm

i don't think it's quite as simple as life after death," she said.

"it's what consciousness is and how we define it. we are entering an exciting time researching consciousness.

"current science says it is a by-product of the brain. but it may be that consciousness is around us and the brain might be a mediator, an antenna, instead of controlling consciousness.

about 6 weeks ago a very good friend of mine had a brain haemorrhage. he was very lucky to be with someone at the time and was rushed to hospital. things didn't look good in the first two weeks as they were getting no response from him, infact he was hours from them turning off the life support machine.

thankfully it wasn't his time and he has come back. his recovery has progressed well and he seems to be recovering all his faculties. he will soon be well enough to receive visitors, and you can guess what question i'm going to ask him !

nde - the proof of extended human consciousness?

cardiologist pim van lommel, in attempting to explain evidence of human consciousness during periods of no brain function, drew together several threads of scientific research and speculation. in van lommel's view, our consciousness actually exists outside of the body, in an extended quantum field that includes consciousness of others. the dna, which has not the capacity to encode all the instructions to make a creature, is merely the barcode of the individual. the brain, which has not the capacity to store a lifetime of memories or process information as quickly as it does, is merely the receiver of the working of the extended consciousness. there are aspects of near-death experiences that are similar to close encounters of the fourth kind, and it can easily be seen that van lommel's theory could easily be applied to such experiences.

“we now have the technology and scientific knowledge to begin exploring the ultimate question,” says dr sam parnia, leader of the research team at london’s hammersmith hospital. “to be honest, i started off as a sceptic but having weighed up all the evidence i now think that there is something going on.

i had a near death experience 27 years ago. i recorded it on a great website called the near death experience research foundation (nderf) where they record/study/discuss ndes. go to this site if you want to record your own experience or read about others' ndes.

nderf site: www.nderf.org

in summary: my experience happened spontaneously while watching a violent scene in a superman movie, of all things! so i originally thought my nde was an obe, but nderf classified it as an nde. i saw/felt/heard the density/texture of the air change like a veil coming down. after hearing a loud sound, i watched my body fall onto the shoulder of a friend and then watched them carry me out of the room and onto a couch where i later rejoined my body. i distinctly felt myself as separate from gia. i was not afraid, but i was concerned for her. when i sat up the veil lifted just as it had dropped. go to this link if you care to read about my experience in particular.

my story: http://www.nderf.org/gia_p's_nde.htm

about the continuity of our consciousness by pim van lommel

http://www.nderf.org/vonlommel_consciousness.htm

this is the official work paper and it certainly is fascinating how he insisted that each facet be looked at through only scientific eyes for the conclusion must be scientific. his conclusion gave me the happy dance right here at my desk. skeptic he was.... not any more.

the site it is on is a place you can read hundreds of nde history and i must say there are some rather undisputable similarities in most of the ndes. some rather cool differences thrown in the mix to really keep a person thinking as well. enjoy. i know i did.

please note that an athiest sent me this study to advise he may be having small (hehe) doubts that he was right regarding spirituality!!.
