greetings
i'm a musician. i play 30s,40s,50s jazz. i play double bass,my main instrument, and tenor sax. it has happened often that i get into a piece of music and everything seems to 'flow'. you're not thinking of the notes or the changes, it all starts to coalesce into a wonderful moment of completeness. it feels like the brain has stopped and it is all coming from within. you are lost in the creative moment. i remember once, i was practicing a piece at home on the bass. my eldest son, who is also a musician, was standing there watching and listening and i slipped into the flow. my eyes were closed and i was lost in this musical moment. when it was finished, i opened my eyes and my son was standing there looking entirely raptured and i knew he had felt it too. suddenly there was this big smile on his face and with a little laugh he said, "that was good". he didn't need to say anything else. it was a wonderful moment. |

hello!
i'm a singer/songwriter and voiceliberationcoach. i've had a musical "break/pause" for 2 months....i feel all you say is absolutely the truth..i needed this break to redirect myself, not only musically but also spiritually....i send a prayer to the universe and "all there is" to send me musiscians and coworkers who share my spiritual beliefs so i can manifest my "nep-tune". transiten transiten |

hey e.j. and everybody else, thanks for your answers. music is such a personal thing. i find some "spirit" in all kinds of music from rock and roll to folk, blues and even the occasional top ten hit. sometimes it's just the melody, sometimes it's the beat , sometimes the poetry of the lyrics, sometimes it's the fact that it makes we just want to sing along and sometimes it's the way the i just feel like dancing!
being a non musician i rely more on how a piece makes me feel than on the actual execution of the piece. i think most musicians are musicians because their heart is in it wouldn't you say, and if their heart is in it wouldn't that mean that a bit of their spirit is in it? just some of my thoughts. megan |

hi all,
i was just pondering this while walking my dog. i've been thinking a lot about musicians lately and how when they are in the moment it's not really them playing the music but they have tapped into the field it is really the creator, through them who is playing the music. i was thinking that there are certain things that i do where i think i have tapped into the same thing, and it's not necessarily something that takes great talent, but is something that takes passion where you are truly experiencing in the moment. this has happened to me while cross country skiing, hiking ,sometimes when being creative, when i feel love, and back in the day i'm pretty sure i played a few games of hacky sack that were divinely orchestrated!:d i'm curious what types of things and experiences bring these same feelings to others, what is your passion, what do you do without having to think? i'd love to know. megan |

megan,
i completely agree with you about the potential for our spirit to express itself through music and art. your memories of divinely orchestrated games of hacky sack can be considered artistic athleticism, thus the spiritual expression in my experience with jazz piano, and singing harmonies, i have noticed that when the spirit expresses itself, it is always in what seems to be the highest form of communication. feeling and thought is communicated from artist to listener/participant in clear expression. unfortunately, often our popular music of today does not come close to spiritual expression and communication. since you always talk about listening to your ipod :d , what examples of spiritual expression do you know of in modern music? peace and love in the light, e.j. |

for me i think it is when stumbling upon an opportunity to answer the call to the brothers and sisters of sorrow comming from an individual or a group requesting help. i can feel the moment arising in advance, i try to compose myself, i try to honor freewill and offer my help with an open heart. i let instinct take over and hope for the best. to me letting the present moment take over and just having trust in faith brings this level of consciousness to the surface along with feelings of being one with the creator...........sylvain...............
