Default J. R. R. Tolkein and 2012?
has anyone ever noticed the remarkable similarities between the "lord of the rings" and the ascension process?

in the first movie bilbo mentions that they are in the 3rd age at the moment. and then at the end of the last movie they say, "and now begins the 4th age on middle earth." what?! i couldn't believe my ears. maybe tolkien new what was going on?

also the whole bit about the ring of power is very interesting. like jimi hendrix said, "when the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace." well that is what happened in the movie. the "ring of power" symbolizes the lust that men have for power. and when the lust for this "ring of power" was finally given up and destroyed, then began the power of love and the 4th age.

no wonder this movie was so big. people probably resonated with the truth even if they did not know it on a conscious level.

tolkien was a genius.

here's an interesting piece by jay weidner:

tolkien at the end of time: alchemical secrets of the lord of the rings

it seems a simple story.

at first glance it appears to be nothing more than a very long fairy tale about good and evil. peopled with elves, dwarves, wizards, monsters and more, j.r.r. tolkien's lord of the rings was not considered a great work of literature when it first appeared in 1954. now it is hailed as the book of the 20th century. what is it about this book that caused it to be such a sensation? why does it create such a warmth and resonance in the hearts of its readers? our answer to these and other questions to be discussed in the course of this article is that tolkien was aware of the hidden esoteric history of humanity and the powerful influence of the great work of alchemy on european culture.

also interesting to note is that tolkien's abandoned novel the notion club papers contained a reference to 2012. it is a space/time/dream travel story, written at the same time as the lord of the rings was being developed.

lotr is probably my single favourite book...i "studied" the silmarillion just because the text was initially extremely difficult to understand and follow. but i entered into the "tolkien-mind" and for a while, i was thinking in lotr-esque language. heh.

just to draw some connections with the lg scenario:
1) both the ring itself and the palantir, that glowing orb thing that saruman was using = the looking glass. as you know, that project was/is tied with some pretty shadowy benefactors, most likely hyper-d sts guys = sauron.
2) the dark riders = mib?
2) orcs = j-rods
3) elves = sto orions
it syncs together all too well.

the mayans described our world as leaving the 4th world into the 5th on december 21 2012. tolkien described the destruction of the ring marking the ending of the 3rd age and the beginning of the 4th age of man.
to draw a (probably ad-hoc) connection, maybe 2012 symbolizes the time when the lg is completely destroyed. or when it is seized and an age of darkness overcomes us all
but don't forget the eagles!
