the sound of music !
have you noticed how music is such a strong healer and seems to bind us! i have noticed how much music has the ability to open my heart to my own soul. it softens the physcial, emotional and spirtual self allowing for an outpouring of bottled up energy to come out and play or to be released. it is powerful medicine, because perhaps in those few minutes, the music just transforms you and takes you away from the material world to your own fabric of self. for just in that moment, feeling the real you ! the other universal reaction to music, the tones, the words to the songs, etc., it has no one set agenda or style, each is unique and has an audience. music seems to fit and bind all individuals, allowing them to be completely unique as they are, but still has the ability to raise or lower the heart of the soul with its gift of sound. i had read or someone told me that sound and light are the same or similar. perhaps someone can help me understand this idea a little more. it makes sense, but i have not looked further.... |

hi rhonda,
i have also always responded to music in the same way that you describe. even as a child, i would try to find classical music on the radio to listen to when no one in the household ever listened to it or appreciated it. as an adult, i try to get to as many symphony orchestra presentations as i can and i still listen to only classical and soothing meditation cds or new-age type music to calm my soul. it's interesting to notice that even classical music that has an extremely fast beat or is purposely written with lots of sharps and flats has the opposite effect and actually makes me uneasy and jittery. the sound of music ! love and light, nancy |

dear rhonda, nancy, and all,
this is some of the core material i've been most interested in myself. rhonda - to answer your question, i too, had heard about the "sound and light" as god in expression as given in surat shabd yoga, from personal initiation. k paul johnson, in his bk "edgar cayce in context" noted parallels as well as differences in meditation descriptions given by radhasoami (shabd yogic path) sect of hinduism. ever the researcher, johnson provided info had not seen before with examination of cayce readings on meditation. he shared how the basics had been given prior to a reading given for a certain man, a mr. thind who was a follower of shabd yoga. he wondered if readings could have been influenced by some kind of precognitive sampling or "coloration". my research area was in cayce readings disclosure of "beautiful music " heard in meditation, and that represents some of the parallel given. there is much in ra material about this.(yes, nancy, you are very correct about the greater coverage!). under study now to better understand what steiner taught about this. nina a sample of the "greater scope" is reflected in the title of a bk by waldorf school doctor armin husemann, "the harmony of the human body:musical principles in human physiology". (his father was co-author of " anthroposophical approach to medicine").get a sense of just how involved music is from back cover! "an explopration of the cosmic origins of human beings and the evolutionary laws which govern their developement. armin husemann applies musical principles as a method of gaining insight into the structure of the human body and the forces that work on it, he seeks to utilize our experience of music and explain the physiological and anatomical relationships in the body, as well as illuminate the spiritual influences which determine physical development. drawing on artistic exercises set out by rudolf steiner to develop a better understanding of these influences, the book explains the cosmic origins of human beings and the evolutionary laws which govern their development." |
