as a therapist i found this really facinating, i do a lot of teaching you must first love yourself before you can lover others, but this takes it to anothert level. donald
http://www.davidicke.com/content/view/8016/48/ two years ago, i heard about a therapist in hawaii who cured a complete ward of criminally insane patients--without ever seeing any of them. the psychologist would study an inmate's chart and then look within himself to see how he created that person's illness. as he improved himself, the patient improved. when i first heard this story, i thought it was an urban legend. how could anyone heal anyone else by healing himself? how could even the best self-improvement master cure the criminally insane? it didn't make any sense. it wasn't logical, so i dismissed the story. however, i heard it again a year later. i heard that the therapist had used a hawaiian healing process called ho'oponopono. i had never heard of it, yet i couldn't let it leave my mind. if the story was at all true, i had to know more. i had always understood "total responsibility" to mean that i am responsible for what i think and do. beyond that, it's out of my hands. i think that most people think of total responsibility that way. we're responsible for what we do, not what anyone else does--but that's wrong. hi donald:
a fellow practitioner shared this ho'oponopono process with me well over a year ago. i sounded awesome to me - i work with energy in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual field to help clients get/be well - and was immediately attracted to the potential. i searched to find all that i could on the net (which wasn't much at the time) regarding this process. with the little i understand about it, i decided to delve in and give it a try. it is not unlike reiki to me as far as the energetic feel of it. i find that after i do a session (which can be as short or as long as needed), i feel so much better (like a clear channel or tube that has been scrubbed clean). i believe it is one of those things, that if done regularly, would have great benefit. personally, i feel drawn to lots of stuff and get off the desired track by chasing down other interesting processes ![]() shelly |

i'm, going for my last level training in a couple of weeks to be a master level practioner, i have been going to a reiki practicitioner for about three years now for my own healing stuff, she is also a shaman and has been teaching me as well all about working with energies. i incorperate it as well into my practice, kids are so open to it and it does wonders for them. if you have any additional information or links could you send it my way, thanks donald

thanks for this post and its information!
my dad passed away four years ago--and since that time (i was with him), i've become aware of the sense that when one person leaves this human body--the world as known to,and perceived by, only that person passes with him/her. it fit the idea of "how many lightworkers does it take to change a world?--only one." each of us seems to be the source and center and sovereign of the world we perceive--no one else sees or lives it in our own unique way. no one else is privy to every thought, feeling or perception that passes through our awareness. i'm conscious of honoring another's beingness, but also aware that anyone or anything seemingly "outside" of me is also lovingly playing out the role i scripted for them to play for me--thus, if i see their gift for me in helping me discover more of myself, then i also simultaneously release them from having to play that role for me anymore. with much appreciation for your sharing this.... penny |

i found more detail about this process, there is a lot more information under articles link. donald
http://www.hooponopono.org/articles/self_i-dentity.html self i-dentity through ho'oponopono being 100% responsible for the problems of my clients [[authors-email donald for names] in traditional approaches to problem solving and healing, the therapist begins with the belief that the source of the problem is with the client, not within him. he believes that his responsibility is to assist the client in working through his problem. could these beliefs have resulted in systemic burnout throughout the healing profession? to be an effective problem solver, the therapist must be willing to be 100% responsible for having created the problem situation; that is, he must be willing to see that the source of the problem are erroneous thoughts within him, not within the client. therapists never seem to notice that every time there is a problem, they are always present! being 100% responsible for actualizing the problem allows the therapist to be 100% responsible for resolving it. using the updated ho'oponopono approach, a process of repentance, forgiveness and transmutation developed by kahuna lapa'au morrnah nalamaku simeona, a therapist is able to have erroneous thoughts within himself and within the client transmuted into perfect thoughts of love. her eyes brimmed with tears. deep trenches enclosed the corners of her mouth. "i am worried about my son," cynthia sighs softly. "he's back on drugs again." as she tells her painful story, i begin the cleaning of the erroneous thoughts within me that have actualized as her problem. as erroneous thoughts are replaced by loving thoughts in the therapist and in his family, relatives and ancestors, they are replaced too in the client and in her family, relatives and ancestors. the updated ho'oponopono process allows the therapist to work directly with the original source who can transmute erroneous thoughts into love. her eyes dry up. the trenches around her mouth soften. she smiles, relief dawning across her face "i don't know why but i'm feeling better." i do not know why too. really. life is a mystery except to love who knows all. i just let it go at that, and just thank love from whom all blessings flow. in problem solving using the updated ho'oponopono process, the therapist first takes his []-dentity, his mind and connects it up with the original source, what others call love or god. with the connection in place, the therapist then appeals to love to correct the erroneous thoughts within him that are actualizing as the problem for himself first and for the client second. the appeal is a process of repentance and forgiveness on the part of the therapist---"i am sorry for the erroneous thoughts within me that have caused the problem for me and for the client; please forgive me." in response to the repentance and forgiveness appeal of the therapist, love begins the mystical process of transmuting the erroneous thoughts. in this spiritual correction process, love first neutralizes the erroneous emotions that have caused the problem, be they resentment, fear, anger, blame or confusion. in the next step, love then releases the neutralized energies from the thoughts leaving them in a state of void, of emptiness of true freedom. with the thoughts empty, free, love then fills them with itself. the result? the therapist is renewed, restored in love. as the therapist is renewed so is the client and all involved in the problem. where there was despair in the client, there is love. where there was darkness in her soul, there is now the healing light of love. the self []- dentity through ho'oponopono training teaches people who they are and how they can solve problems moment to moment, and in the process be renewed and restored in love. the training begins with a two-hour free lecture. attendees are given an overview of how thoughts within them actualize as spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, relational and financial problems in their lives and in the lives of their families, relatives, ancestors, friends, neighbors and associates. in the weekend training, students are taught what a problem is, where the problems are located, how to solve different kinds of problems using over twenty-five problem solving processes and how to really take good care of themselves. the underlying emphasis in the training is on being 100% responsible for themselves and for what happens in their lives and for solving problems effortlessly. i found this site as well and it is even more detailed in explanation. donald
http://www.ancienthuna.com/ho-oponopono.htm ho'oponopono means to make right. essentially, it means to make it right with the ancestors, or to make right with the people with whom you have relationships. we believe that the original purpose of ho'oponopono was to correct the wrongs that had occurred in someone's life including hala (to miss the thing aimed for, or to err, to disobey) and hewa (to go overboard or to do something to excess) which were illusions, and even 'ino (to do harm, implying to do harm to someone with hate in mind), even if accidental. this description is by no means a complete training in how to do ho'oponopono. while appropriate to do for yourself, for yours and others safety, it should not be done with someone else without training. for example, let's say your five-year-old grandson punched another five-year-old intentionally with hate in mind. if asked, then the one who was punched would forgive the other immediately, because it is inappropriate for anyone to carry guilt any longer than they had to, if it were not necessary. we call this the hawaiian code of forgiveness, and it's an important thought, because when we forgive others, who are we forgiving? ourselves, of course. if you are familiar with neuro linguistic programming (nlp), there is a saying, "people are only doing the best they can with the resources they have available." if you've heard that before, it has to do with forgiveness. think about it. as you do consider that you are included in "people." in the eastern traditions, too, there is a real tradition of being aligned with and cleaning up relations with the ancestors. in japan, china, as well as the hawaiian tradition, it is thought to be important to align and clean up any past problems that you've had in relationships, especially with relatives. at the same time, perhaps there are family patterns you do not want. certainly you have heard the saying, "we just don't do that in our family," or "that's the way it is in our family." what happens then, is that certain generational themes get passed along in families, like sadness or any number of different traits. ho'oponopono will allow you to clean this up. theory: we carry inside us as parts of the unconscious mind, all the significant people in our lives. (these parts of us often look very much like carl jung's archetypes.) ho'oponopono makes it "all right" with them. the process of ho'oponopono is to align with and clean up our genealogy as well as to clean up our relationships with other people in our lives. the process of ho'oponopono: bring to mind anyone with whom you do not feel total alignment or support, etc. in your mind's eye, construct a small stage below you imagine an infinite source of love and healing flowing from a source above the top of your head (from your higher self), and open up the top of your head, and let the source of love and healing flow down inside your body, fill up the body, and overflow out your heart to heal up the person on the stage. be sure it is all right for you to heal the person and that they accept the healing. when the healing is complete, have a discussion with the person and forgive them, and have them forgive you. next, let go of the person, and see them floating away. as they do, cut the aka cord that connects the two of you (if appropriate). if you are healing in a current primary relationship, then assimilate the person inside you. do this with every person in your life with whom you are incomplete, or not aligned. the final test is, can you see the person or think of them without feeling any negative emotions. if you do feel negative emotions when you do, then do the process again |

i just made a post a minute ago about some issues i hav been having. then i found this post, and it hit me really hard.
i don't think i have ever had any appreciation for myself, i never like anything about me in fact, so i devote the majority of my time trying to perfect a skill or ability to feel accomplished, this is incredible. maybe i should start searching within for a feeling of acceptance of myself to solve my issues. as obvious as it seems now, i just guess i always thought that there wasnt any issue there and i overlooked it, maybe its why i have such a hard time getting along with people, i havn't had a friend for like 10 years. thank you very much for this post, you may have saved a life. ![]() jeremy |

jeremy -
you've got plenty of friends here! ![]() there is alot to learn about inner work and outer work, etc., but, from what i've been able to gather, mainly boils down to what you said - loving yourself. i'd ask you this, "how can you love anyone else when you don't love yourself?" this is the "essence" of inner work, which must be "completed" before moving to outer work. remember friend, you are perfect in the eyes of the creator. the challenge is seeing yourself this way. good things will happen when you look within and resolve any issues that may linger - a huge part of this is forgiveness - of yourself first, then others... good luck in your "cleansing" - remember to be patient. hope that you get to feeling better soon - i'll be keeping you in my thoughts. :d art |

hi everyone. there have been some interesting observations of how [particular practitioners-please email jd for names] are presenting ho'oponopono. i've been involved with huna for the past year or so now and recently attended a training put on by [a specific institute] where we learned a slight different variation, but quite effective process.
obviously having been part of it i have my own beliefs surrounding both versions, but if you're interested check out http://hunablog.com/ and a specific blog entry about the zero limits version of ho'oponopono (http://hoopono.blogspot.com/2007/11/...mits-cult.html) the yahoo group has quite an active discussion going on now about it. peace (and carrots). |

i came on here to "tinker" as i'm having a sleepless night. i tried praying about my problems, as usual, but i find it hard "connecting" to god/ the source....like i could for a while when i was a faithful little child.
now, i understand the importance about healing ourselves so we can heal others. i believe that love is profound and could heal the world. but there is just so much i don't understand. like why must life be so confusing. i'm so confused. and i'm scared. everything i love turns into disillusion. all the while, all i long for is oneness. just pure, infinite oneness, joy and bliss......... does that make any sense? |

what really resonated with me from the healing within to heal without was when he was saying over and over "i love you , i love you , i love you , i'm sorry." while taking total responsibility for the problems of his clients.
now when i am taking the dog for a walk, i say the above over and over to myself. sometimes i direct my thoughts while saying this to my family and friends, sometimes i direct my thoughts to the people in the neighbourhood i'm walking through. sometimes to certain world leaders, the whole world and last night i sent my thoughts and feelings of responsibility and love out to the whole universe. i visualize my feelings of love washing over everything. i catch myself saying it as well at other times during the day when i am doing a task that doesn't need a lot of thought, like washing dishes etc. its such a small thing, that is so easy to do, and i though "hey it can't hurt" ![]() happy thanksgiving to everyone in the states. i love you, i love you , i love you, i'm sorry. megan |

megan i'm so happy that you have found this to be helpful. for me when i discovered [particular practitioner] of ho'oponopono i resonated very strongly with it. i purchased an mp3 [practitioner] (and some accompanying music) going through the 4 phrases over and over. i was essentially reprogramming myself through hypnotic suggestion.
my only word of caution is to find out if these phrases are true for you. you can use kinesiology to test each phrase. some have found that "i'm sorry" instills guilt whereas "i apologize" resonates a bit better. play with it and have fun ![]() peace. |
