dear friends,
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homep...5/sacredpl.htm be well, be love. david the twelve sacred planets contents 1. ancient cultures 2. the sacred planets 3. mars/mercury controversy 4. planetary ages 5. planetary characteristics appendices 1. the search for vulcan 2. lilith and the second moon 3. sounds from unseen planets abbreviations 1. ancient cultures the seven sacred planets of the ancients are: saturn, jupiter, mars, venus, mercury, and the sun and moon.1 the sun and moon are not, of course, planets in the usual sense of the term, but from a geocentric perspective all these seven bodies appear to revolve around the earth. theosophy explains that the sun and moon are really substitutes for two hidden planets, one between mercury and the sun, and the other near the moon. uranus, neptune, and pluto were discovered in 1781, 1846, and 1930 respectively. in 2006 pluto was downgraded to the status of a ‘dwarf planet’.2 it is often said that ancient cultures did not refer to any of these planets because they are not readily visible to the naked eye and were therefore unknown. h.p. blavatsky comments: the now universal error of attributing to the ancients the knowledge of only seven planets, simply because they mentioned no others, is based on the same general ignorance of their occult doctrines. the question is not whether they were, or were not, aware of the existence of the later discovered planets; but whether the reverence paid by them to the four exoteric and three secret great gods – the star-angels, had not some special reason. the writer ventures to say there was such a reason, and it is this. had they known of as many planets as we do now (and this question can hardly be decided at present, either way), they would have still connected with their religious worship only the seven, because these seven are directly and specially connected with our earth ...3 the seven planets are not limited to this number because the ancients knew of no others, but simply because they were the primitive or primordial houses of the seven logoi. there may be nine and ninety-nine other planets discovered – this does not alter the fact of these seven alone being sacred.4 like other writers, hpb says that earlier cultures did in fact know of more planets: even with the sun and the moon thrown out of the calculation, the ancients seem to have known of seven planets. how many more are known to us, so far, if we throw out the earth and moon? seven, and no more: seven primary or principal planets, the rest planetoids rather than planets.5 another proof ... that the ancient initiates knew of more than seven planets is to be found in the vishnu purana, book ii., ch. xii., where, describing the chariots attached to dhruva (the pole star), parasara speaks of ‘the chariots of the nine planets,’ which are attached by aerial cords.6 the seven sacred planets and the earth form a particular hierarchy within the solar kingdom because they are closely united in origin and destiny. together they form the sacred ogdoad of the ancients.7 according to theosophy, there are really 12 sacred planets. the ancients, too, sometimes referred to 12 spiritual planetaries or rectors, known as the twelve counsel gods and called in the etrusco-roman language ‘consentes dii’ – ‘consenting or cooperating gods’.8 the ancients arranged the seven planets in the following order: saturn, jupiter, mars, sun, venus, mercury, moon. this order is defined by their geocentric radii, i.e. the relative time occupied by each in its apparent orbit of the earth: approx. 30 years, 12 years, 2 years, 1 year, 7 months, 3 months, and 1 month respectively.9 the order of the days of the week is determined as follows. imagine that the first hour of a particular day is under the governance of saturn. each subsequent hour is under the governance of the subsequent planet. the 8th, 15th, and 22nd hours are therefore governed by saturn. the 24th hour is governed by mars, and the first hour of the next day is governed by the sun: saturn-day (saturday) is therefore followed by sun-day (sunday). the same procedure is followed in determining the remaining five days of the week.10 the order and names of the days of our week are therefore based on ancient astrology. moreover, [they] were the same in india and in northern europe, and in some parts of asia, a matter which has never yet been satisfactorily explained by our current calendarists and astronomers. the reason is found in the fundamentally identical astrological system common to the entire ancient world.11 |

david,
gosh, i’ve been wanting to talk about this for ages with you and now the opportunity presents itself!!! the idea of the 7 original planets (sun, moon, mercury, venus, mars, jupiter, and saturn) comes from the chaldeans (http://home.online.no/~stebi/newplan2.htm). i wish i could find my former links on this (but don't know where they are) but in the astrology circles i belong to it has been rumored that the reason that uranus, neptune and pluto were not included in chaldean astrology is because these planets came from another solar system and were "adopted" by our sun and original solar system. at the same time, i find this to be a contradiction (all or part) that is going on with this planetary "adoption” theme and what is said in a former link i posted here to the forum (http://www.goldlibrary.com/sunborn.html) which shows that uranus came from gaia, neptune from titan. note that pluto isn’t even on this chart. to further add fuel to the fire you said as ec (in the book “interpreting the revelation with edgar cayce by j. everet irion) that we must master the 7 churches (i.e. 7 chakras and 7 endocrine glands corresponding to these chakras where one of the 7 original planets was associated with each chakra/endocrine gland). so perhaps the chaldeans didn’t worry about uranus, neptune, and pluto because they don’t affect us on an individual level…only collectively. those pesky chaldeans! if only they took better notes for us! charran all time is measured in the sun --- w. d. gann |

david,
with regard to your post: "the order of the days of the week is determined as follows. imagine that the first hour of a particular day is under the governance of saturn. each subsequent hour is under the governance of the subsequent planet. the 8th, 15th, and 22nd hours are therefore governed by saturn. the 24th hour is governed by mars, and the first hour of the next day is governed by the sun: saturn-day (saturday) is therefore followed by sun-day (sunday). the same procedure is followed in determining the remaining five days of the week.10 the order and names of the days of our week are therefore based on ancient astrology." ----- yes. the astrologer sheikh habeeb ahmad in his book "the mysteries of sound and number" goes into great detail about the hours of the day and when the best and worst times of the week and day are to initiate projects depending on the day and time of day. he says (page 27). "beginning at the moment, - the exact minute of sunrise at any given place - the first hour (that is to say, the first sixty minutes after sunrise) is governed by the planet which rules the day of the week, whatever it may be." his book, like nearly all other astrology book's i've read start out the sequence on sunday (and not saturday like the paragraph quoted from the article does). the sun is always the most important planet. in the weekly sequence, the "planet" sun rules the first hour of sunday, the moon rules the first hour of mo[o]nday, mars rules the first hour of tuesday (mar[s]di or mars day in french), mercury rules the first hour of wednesday (mercoledi or mercury day), jupiter rules the first hour of thursday (or thors day), venus rules the first hour of friday (viernedi or venus day) and saturn rules satur[n]day. there is a definite pattern as to the rising of each planet above the horizon for each hour of each day of the week. the sequence starts out like this on sunday (at sunrise not midnight as one might think of being the first hour of the day): sun (governs 1st hour after sunrise on sunday) venus (governs 2nd hour after sunrise on sunday) mercury (governs 3rd hour after sunrise on sunday) moon (governs 4th hour after sunrise on sunday) saturn (governs 5th hour after sunrise on sunday) jupiter (governs 6th hour after sunrise on sunday) mars (governs 7th hour after sunrise on sunday) now this pattern starts to repeat itself. let me show it the sequence through monday morning (second hour after sunrise to show you why monday's first hour starts with the moon governing the first hour). continuing the sequence: sun (governs 8th hour after sunrise on sunday) venus (governs 9th hour after sunrise on sunday) mercury (governs 10th hour after sunrise on sunday) moon (governs 11th hour after sunrise on sunday) saturn (governs 12th hour after sunrise on sunday - not necessarily equal to 12 noon, see?) jupiter (governs 13th hour after sunrise on sunday) mars (governs 14th hour after sunrise on sunday) sun (governs 15th hour after sunrise on sunday) venus (governs 16th hour after sunrise on sunday) mercury (governs 17th hour after sunrise on sunday) moon (governs 18th hour after sunrise on sunday) saturn (1governs 9th hour after sunrise on sunday) jupiter (governs 20th hour after sunrise on sunday) mars (governs 21st hour after sunrise on sunday) sun (governs 22nd hour after sunrise on sunday) venus (governs 23rd hour after sunrise on sunday) mercury (governs 24th hour after sunrise on sunday) moon (governs 1st hour after sunrise on monday) saturn (governs 2nd hour after sunrise on monday) jupiter (governs 3rd hour after sunrise on monday) mars (governs 4th hour after sunrise on monday). see the pattern? charran all time is measured in the sun --- w.d. gann |

dear charran and everyone,
looked at twelve sacred planets that light eye linked. vulcan was mentioned. did find some info when searched dc too but wanted to make sure that everyone knew that cayce reading 826-8 (found in church/gammon's "edgar cayce's astrology") made it clear that pluto and the legendary vulcan were one and the same. also, they relayed readings prior to the 1930 discovery that mentioned a planet septimus, latin for seventh, pluto is the seventh planet outward from the earth. reading 1199-27 asked about pluto's effects in conjunction with one's ascendant. "this as we find is entirely amiss from what we might call a physical expression but as we find indicated, these influences are a development that is occuring in the universe, or environs about the earth - pluto. not as some have indicated that it is gradually being dissipated. it is gradually growing and is one of those influences that are to be as a demonstrative activity in the future affairs or developments of man towards the spiritual-minded influences outside of himself. these(individuals) in the present, as might be said, are merely (those) becoming aware of same. rather within the next hundred to two hundred years there may be a great deal of influence (of pluto) upon the ascendancy of man;for it's closest of those to the activities of the earth, to be sure, and is a developing influence, and not one already established." reading some ideas about those chaldeans from very elementary glance at steiner's anthroposphical writings. sorry don't know enough to comment on your links - nina |

i think of jack nicholson (the actor) as an example of "pluto rising."
the dwarf planet pluto intrigues me. the relatively fast orbit of charon and its large size in comparison to pluto remind me of a dynamo doublet that on some level acts as transducer of energy in a way that goes beyond concepts of size alone. this day in age seems a heyday for astrologers with the discovery of so many kuiper belt objects. in some ways i consider pluto a sort of spokesperson for so many of the kuiper objects - and that the effects of pluto may be in part attributable to the net kuiper object configuration over the same period. then again, one could argue that for each planet, as inseparable in influence with the other planets (especially the slow moving ones.) whoa, a strong deja-vu, right then. beyond the vulgarity which acts to veil his wisdom, i really admire the work of jeff green's work on pluto. his sort of "rock and roll" tactic seems an exaggeration by which some may see the patterns that so many of us struggle with. i'll add that those patterns can manifest in very subtle subconscious ways which people live "veiled" to realize. one may observe a similar phenomena in movies, the idea of disclosing wisdom in plain sight as veiled to the masses by enough violence that they are unable to penetrate the distraction to assimilate the points of wisdom being shared because of so much emotional shock they work to balance at the same time. maybe the intent is to implant the points of wisdom in the subconscious - which relates to outer planet astrology. maybe that gets us back to jack nicholson, difficult to say. |

symbolically speaking, pluto/charon represent the dual nature of any soul that enters into this particular solar structure that we inhabit... there's a glyph for pluto mentioned in alan oken's complete astrology (1988 bantam isbn 0-553-34537-0):
...(this) symbol expresses the entire concept of the regenerative processes of involution and evolution. the circle of spirit (during the involutionary process) emits its rays of life, which are then encased by the receptive nature of the soul (semicircle). the rays descend further, until they reach the plane of the earth, where they manifest into a particular physical form (the cross). in the reverse evolutionary process the experiences of physical life cause an awakening in consciousness. these realizations are assimilated in the soul and then transmuted into the ethers of the spirit, where they are integrated. then they are sent back down again through involution to further energize and develop the earth, nature, and man... |

i also have his book "uranus - freedom from known" which helped me tremendously in the work of making peace with saturn (in my 42nd year). during that year i found composite conjunct aspect transits synchronous to intense periods of my struggles. i observe that the conjunct aspects of transiting planets to my natal chart's planetary positions seem easiest to discern - they seem louder than others. i find it affirming to discover synchronicities in such regard and the act of doing that seems to diffuse whatever i'm going through - as if i've acknowledged some greater plan is going on than whatever i could dream up. |

dear not_andrew,
i do think that uranus, neptune and pluto do affect us in our charts. i myself had some very powerful transformations with pluto running over some of my natal planets in the past 2 years...however as far as i've been able to discern, these 3 planets do not have a direct connection with the chakras and the endocrine glands ...based on chaldean astrology...and in the book of revelations (and edgar cayce readings on the revelations) which describes how one overcomes the "curses" of the chakras (addictions to sex, money, attention, etc.). this is why, imho, i believe that we do not have to overcome these planets as much in our individual charts at this 3d level (7 planets corresponding to 7 chakras)...but that is not to say that these 3 outer planets are not more strongly an influence in 4d. i'm still myself in flux with this issue...and those pesky chaldeans! just pondering out loud, i enjoy listening to your viewpoint. i have some friends who are very much into transpluto work so i am sure that what i think now will likely change in the future as more knowlege comes my way. charran |

how do the chakras correspond to one's degree of conscious awareness? i ask that because i consider the outer planets as having higher degrees of subconscious influence. there's the concept of energetic blockages which may go hand in hand with compulsions and subconscious desires. possibly, as a person frees their blockages they also free themselves to better observe such compulsions and subconscious desires and so, possibly better able to consciously make better decisions, though difficult to generalize here.
