Default OBE or Crazy Dream?
Hello All,

I was wondering if some of the many experienced posters here can help me figure out what exactly occurred to me last night/this morning. I woke up early and cold but decided sleep was still within my grasps and decided to continue laying down. A few minutes into my attempt a dream began where a group of my friends and myself were discussing the topic that I'm sure you can all guess - Out of Body Experiences. I decided (in my dream) I should attempt to have an OBE right in front of them and found a bed inside the house we were situated in and slowly began to lay down and relax. This is where things become strange, because I've never had a dream inside of another dream but I suppose any thing's possible. I was somewhat asleep when a friend in the room with me began playing this song on his Iphone and put the device in front of my face for reason's I certainly cannot comprehend now. I'm not sure whether I opened my eyes or not but either way I saw on his phone's screen another smaller screen with crazy-looking lights in the background that looked (for a lack of a better word) - trippy.
Suddenly I felt the smaller gray screen grow and shrink. Then, I possibly heard a small "click!" I felt I was still in the bed so I attempted to raise myself up and check to see what had happened. That's when I floated up and knew I was FINALLY out of my body. My astral body quickly traveled to the kitchen where my group of friends were still discussing the topic and one of them even stared at me wide-eyed and shocked. While the rest of my friends couldn't see me, the strong reaction of one of them was enough proof for me. Unfortunately, I couldn't control my astral body and never stopped in the kitchen as I hoped I would. Instead, I went right up through the roof into the night sky. Here's when I realized everything was in black and white, and very very dark. I tried asking for light as is always suggested in these forums and though my mouth did not move it seems the thought was enough to make things only a shade brighter. Since the change in lighting didn't help my vision much I decided to travel back to the kitchen and shock the one person who did see my astral body to begin with once more. Quickly, I thought of him and being taken towards him but once again, instead of stopping in front of him and the surrounding group I was pulled back into my body.
Back in my physical body,I headed towards the kitchen eager to ask what my one spectator saw. This is where I woke up from my dream---back to real reality. I was confused as to what had just happened. Did I finally project? Or did I just dream I had? Everything had felt semi-authentic. For example, I had felt body-vibrations in the beginning but once out of my body I felt nothing. There was no increase in the strength of my senses (in fact, seeing black and white is a decrease right?). When I was moving/flying, I didn't feel the wind or smell the night air. Yet, when I woke up from the dream, I felt as if it had really happened. Here's where I get lost because while I can vouch for the order of how things might happen (such as distorted astral sight and hearing a click) I cannot vouch for the experience in general since I projected in a location inside my head to begin with - in a dream!!
Therefore, can someone maybe clarify for me what I just experienced. If it helps, I have never had an conscious OBE prior to this one except once when I was sick and didn't really know I was projecting (since it was before I had learned what astral projection was). Also, I have tried NEW for 2 weeks but school has kept me from truly devoting time to it. Hopefully the new year will bring more energy work, and somewhat clearer experiences.

Thanks and Happy New Year -- Parkerness

This post may be illuminating to you- You probably astral projected into your personal place in the astral, fell asleep in your astral body, and woke up in your mental body. Then did it in reverse.

Thanks CFTraveler. I now have much to read about, and think about. By the way, I don't know if you get this enough but you deserve much credit for your loyalty to these forums. You seem to know them inside and out and that makes everyone else's life much easier.

Hi parkerness

It is interesting that just quite recently many people have reported that they have had an OBE while still dreaming. Most of these accounts are very similar to yours (alhough there are, of course, some minor differences in each account). IMO most of these experiences, including yours, were actual OBEs where the consciousness DID separate from the physical body for at least a short time (a minute or two). However what probably happened to you (and most of the others who had a similar experience) was that you could not quite attain a clear astral consciousness because dream imagery kept interfering. It is quite possible that you were still very close to your physical body during the OBE (this usually causes confusion). Yet you had just enough astral clarity to realize that it Was an OBE and not a dream.
This again goes to show that there can be an Extremely fine line between an OBE and a dream (and a lucid dream). So it might only take a little bit of extra mental energy to deliberately induce a full OBE from a dream state.

Regards
Grey

Thanks Grey =] it's quite encouraging to know I crossed the line for a minute or two.
