Hello
I have always been interested in OBE's but I never acted on it until today. I spent some time in Benin/Africa about 1 year and half ago. Benin is the birthplace of Voodoo. I have had the opportunity to see people fall in deep trance like states with voodoo drum rhythms. So I thought it would be a good choice of music to try my first OBE. I relaxed...After a while I felt a sudden shift. even tough my eyes were still closed, I saw brighter with moving color/shadows.I felt my heart pounding to the point that I was scared I was getting a heart attack.I felt like I was on the verge of an OBE, my mind seemed clearer, I was very much aware of everything and most of my body felt numb. Has the sensation got more intense. my heart pounded even more and the music seemed synchronized and louder.(I am not sure if the music just happened to be synced with my experience or I imagined it...) Anyways, at that point I felt like I should wake up because the pounding got too intense. From what I read, some people say that the pounding can be a chakra and that it has nothing to do with heart beat. But, when I snapped out of it I felt my heart with my hand and it was beating rapidly. Can this be dangerous ? Thank you Matt (sorry for the english, I am french) |

Hi Matt.
There is some degree of 'heart pounding', because of the excitement generated by the experience. Sometimes, when your heart chakra is also activating, it can make it seem more intense than it really is, but sometimes, yes, there will be fear and excitement associated with this, especially if you are fully conscious. I'd say, it depends on your health. If you have any underlying heart condition, now would be a great time to get a checkup. So I'd say, if you are healthy, there is no more danger that having a very exciting dream or nightmare and waking up suddenly. But if you do have a cardiac issue of course there is danger, so get checked out. |

The drums are a good hypnotic sound, and can serve as distractions from everyday noises, but their subconscious association to 'black magic' may have adversely affected you, causing fear to manifest and affect you physically. So if you are bothered with environmental noises, I recommend earplugs, or just don't listen to anything but the natural earhiss that's always there when it's quiet.
Or, you can find nice 'positive' meditative music, that don't involve rhythm. |

Well, the Voodoo drums don't really bring negative toughts to me. Most people associate voodoo with black magic or evil but there is a lot of positivity in it as well. When I listen to these drums it is mostly positive experiences that come to my mind. I will try different music and the earplugs tough. Thank you!
