Default out of body but cant move and sluggish
Hey friends,
So around ten years ago I had a few spontaneous projections that got me on this path, and then a few years later found out what it was exactly and began reading and trying on my own. During this time I had many experiences both out of body and in many different "astral planes" as people call them. Since that time I'd become so busy that I had little time to devote, though continued to have OBEs on occasion.
So for the last maybe two or three years I'll go out of body via a dream, where I will myself out and will be simply stuck. I know I am out of my body, and I can see around me but I can't will myself to move or become more clear. I miss those early experiences of feeling very free in an OBE state. I can only describe it as like being underwater but being able to move much faster.
What measures would you suggest to move past this phase? I feel as if I've hit a rut and am scared I can't return. I recently ordered RB's CDs to listen to, and hopefully that will do something. As a note I've also dont a lot of the NEW exercises but that doesnt seem to be changing anything.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

One of the usual advices given for "being stuck" or "being unable to move" is starting an energy work routine, as Robert found that to be one remedy.

"Where" do you get stuck? In the quasi-physical realm Robert calls the Real Time Zone - AFAIK also known as the etheric plane - where everything is kind of like our physical world? Or in the astral itself?

I get stuck just above my bed, what they call the real time zone.

Yeah, I should go deeper into the energy work. I've been doing some exercises from the book, but have yet to move on to the later sections.

Maybe your former adventures happened in the astral body, who can roam around the RTZ more freely. And these new adventures happened in the etheric body, which essentially cannot move away from the physical body. Both bodies can perceive the RTZ and travel in it, but the degree of freedom varies (this is taken from Kurt Leland's explanations on the topic).

Robert Monroe used to use another exit technique when he found himself in the etheric body - he called it the "second body". He rolled out of the second body quite similar to the first one, IIRC. This then transported his consciousness into a third body, which was probably the astral body proper.

Other such techniques are known. IIRC other people mentioned spinning around the center to reach the astral, and so on. Maybe MAP has something on this, too.

I don't know, but maybe the range of action of the etheric body is defined by the energy invested in energy work. I think the technique of trying to get away from the physical body as quickly as possible might be another "exit technique" from the etheric body into the astral body. That would require mobility of the etheric body, though.

If the problem really is being stuck in the etheric body, maybe you can come up with a visualisation or exit technique of your own?

Energy work can't hurt, anyway.

PS - how do you usually exit from dreams?

I will have a moment of lucidity in my dream, and will myself out, sort of reaching out of my body, feeling a quick buzzing and release. Then I'm out and very conscious, but get frustrated when I can't move and my body just sits there, until I fall back again into my unconscious state. This probably happens on average once every other week (that I can remember).

True that. That's an interesting suggestion. I never thought that maybe my former ease happened in another body in a way. Maybe you're right. That or I just was more energetically charged (??) before, while now I'm a bit more steeped in the world. Got a lot going on now that I didnt before (engaged, applying to law schools, moved to a new city etc). I need to balance all that with my spiritual life. Or better yet infuse that with spirituality. Riiight??
Thanks for your help by the way Korpo.

Well, you surely are a different person now, with different beliefs, problems and aspirations in life - right? Our beliefs and life circumstances determine also the capabilities of our whole spiritual being. So maybe just an act of adjusting is needed.

I personally find it remarkable that you get lucid so often. That is surely a solid base to expand on.

Good success!

Yeah Olivia! Gotta be positive. I feel lucky to have experiences what I have until now. I just feel like it's time to go deeper.
Take care,

It's Oliver not Olivia. Hee hee. Now he knows how I feel when people think I'm a guy.
Anyway, I was going to say, that besides doing NEW and especially raising energy before projecting, something else I do when I have one of those 'wading in jello' projections, is to force myself to the nearest door or wall and force myself through. Usually this will give you a phase shift and you will be able to move more freely. IMO the problem is when you exit out of the dream pool you're too close to your physical body, which weakens the projection, and are still too close to your dream body, but getting away will either break the 'drain' or wake you up (or sometimes make you pass out, but that's a chance you'll have to take).
Good luck.
