Default Sounds in the ear
Alright, so a few minutes ago I began to have a few surges of slight, dull pain in my left ear. This then culminated in a 30 second period of ''ringing'', but it wasn't really ringing. It almost sounded like binaural beats, a wavy sound that sort of began fading with time.

Does this seem like something merely physical, or perhaps clairadience expansion of some sort?

If you had pain you may have an ear infection. Those do cause ringing if there is fluid in your ears. If you're coming down with something, went scuba diving, rode on an airplane and even if the weather changes abruptly (changes in atmospheric pressure) can cause ringing plus pain. If I were you I'd get checked out.

Well, I have chronic sinusitis and allergies, so I get slight ear pain quite often due to nearly constant 'drainage' in one way or another. The pain is better today, it all happened within a two minute time frame. I had just never heard a sound like that before.

Thanks.

Once again, the pain can be caused by pressure from a middle ear infection, and if you suffer from sinusitis and allergies I'd say you have more chances of that. The sound can be your eardrum, and you want that taken care of. Of course it could just be the congestion pushing on a nerve (did if feel like being stabbed in the ear?) but you don't want to have an untreated infection in your ear.

I can relate to that... I think it's possible that something we do when we attempt to project causes something to happen in the ears... I don't know if it's related to straining ourselves by laying in unusual positions, forcing our eyes closed, not swallowing saliva, relaxing or tensing certain muscles in the throat or face... But there's definitely something weird that happens to our ears that causes physical sounds to occur in there... Perhaps a change in inner ear pressure... I don't know... It's hard to tell what happens because it's so subjective...

I experience that sometimes after meditation sessions. it looks like the tinitus that we normally have in our ears, but a loud tinitus.
when I started meditating the first time, the sound became permanent for 3 days. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't study, I was getting depressed about it, if you have to live with such a sound in the ear all your life, you might go mad...
I was missing the silence and becoming concerned about it, but then it stopped by itself.

I avoided meditation for some days. then started again. I could feel the same sound again for some days but only while meditating.
now I here it from time to time after an intense meditation. and it's as you said about 30s long.

I think it's only a momentarily hightened awarness of the tinitus that is behind this phenomenon.
have two people talking, one at your left, and one at your right. switch your attention to the left one, you will here him clearly while you can't hear what the one on the right is saying. and vice versa.
while meditating, one can become very aware of such internal sounds much more than the external ones. and the mind can have some difficulty switching its attention back to the external sound. but that is only a matter of time, thos world as you will agree, is quite noisy!
