I've been trying to AP for 1½ month for now and been showing good progress. A problem for me is that my physical legs are lifting up instead of letting go.
I'll try to describe it: Last night i tried to practise going into trance. I got the trance but became too tired. So i went to sleep. 2 hours later i woke up and decided to do some more practise. I got into a trance (I followed my breath until everything faded out, i tried to focus on brow-chakra.) I decided to do a technique where i imagine a point in the ceiling where i attach my arms and legs around (Tactile-visualisation). Then i would do a constant pull towards the point. (i imagine it is a ceiling-plate which i can get my hands and feet around (like a monkey hanging on a branch.)) I instantly get the sensation of my astral-body being pressured out towards the point. I can feel my body getting swollen and starting to lift up. Now i can feel my legs lifting up. I ain't doing it by purpose but i really feel as if something is lifting me up. I remained calm focussing on my breath. I can feel my physical legs lifting up from the bed and lifting up the blanket. I can feel my whole body tensing up. I've tried this 3-4 times before and i know that if i push my physical legs down (and relaxing them) then i will go out of the trance and will have to start over. I stay focussed but after a few minutes i have to let go of my legs. and let them fall down. I go out of trance and i'm almost bathed in sweat. Physically exhausted. Why won't my legs let go of my astral-body? I don't believe i have any fears - i just want to get out 10 secs before going back to my body (what could happen?). I've been doing energy-work daily in a month by pulling up energy from my feet to my main-chakras. I've been reading lots about OOBE's and am currently waiting for "MAP", "NEW" and "Astral-dynamics" by Robert Bruce to arrive in the mail-box. |

Sometimes position plays a part in this kind of problem. I have stated before that I can never separate when lying on my right side. I project easier on a recliner, and used to have 'elevating legs' problems (but not my physical ones) when laying on my back. Energy work cured this but it was perplexing. One explanation is that blockages cause problems like this- another may be that certain positions cause temporary blockages, and yet another one may be that certain positions may make you feel vulnerable (I think this may be the case in my case) and you psychologically resist it.
I don't know if this is the case here, but try experimenting with position- it may help. |

Thanks for the replies... After i wrote the post i read some more about Robert Bruce and how he is advicing newcomers to AP not to be rushing into things... It might be the case for me.. of course as i have progressed nicely and can actually bring myself close to a projection (i believe) at this early stage, it would be unnatural (for me...) to not give an exit-technique a few tries But the wiser thing for me would perhaps be to practise on getting to trance... and then wait until i get hold of MAP, so i can follow the course.
It could have been that i was a natural talent in AP, but perhaps i'm not - and i need to get the basics right. Can i resist the urge to do a bit of rope-pulling while i'm waiting for the book to arrive in my mailbox? Doubtful... |

I wasn't sure if you've already tried this, so just disregard this if it doesn't apply ... but there was a time when I thought the same thing was happening with my arms. I could feel the blankets lifting up with them, and would snap out of it because of the frustrated feeling. But I started noticing that the moment after I snapped out of it, my arms AND the blankets would instantly be back down on the bed.
So I decided to just go with the flow the next time this happened. My arms rose up in the air, along with the blankets -- but I managed to stay calm, and soon noticed that they were ASTRAL blankets rising up with my arms. When I got high enough above the bed, the blankets disappeared. |

Hmm.. maybe it could be my astral-blanket going up... I never thought about that. But then again I can feel the muscles in my legs and later in my lower stomach tensing up. So I think it is my physical legs. But I will keep in mind that the "astral-blanket" could be rising up as well (- and not abort)
I had a "strange" experience last night. I had been energy raising lots that day and when i went to bed i made affirmations: "I will have an Oobe tonight and remember it" and said to myself: "I believe". I repeated this 3 times, then i started "trance-practise" to see if i could get vibrations only by "trancing". However my wife couldn't sleep and she constantly disturbed me, so i called it a night and rolled on my right side to sleep. Later i woke up (within half an hour) and i felt my right leg being lifted up (the lower part) i felt slight vibrations going through my body and felt like i was in a trance-state. of course I got quite surprised that my leg was lifting up and got exited (baffled??) I tried to go with it, but couldn't keep calm. (my leg was lifted approx. 15-20 cm over the bed) I had several thoughts going through my head. Now I think of it, it is always my right lower leg, that have bubbling sensations and starts to (sort of) curl the feet. I think it is strange that i wake up with one leg lifting up (physical, but then I could be wrong) if i woke up in the middle of a projection then it would be my whole body being lifted up and definately not my physical body... (?) I'm confused, but delighted that I have these experiences. Anyone got a clue? |

Back when I did Monroe tapes sometimes it would not seem to work, but later at night I would awake and suddenly have all kinds of interesting phenomena. Having set your intent and then falling asleep, especially after anything resembling energy work, can work wonders, as then the subconscious creates the state you sometimes cannot produce consciously. The subconscious tries to create what you direct it to, usually only your thoughts are too scattered or your intention changes all the time. That gives the moment before falling asleep a special significance, as it can be the "last order".
I had problems with my right leg when doing Robert's and Monroe's projection training very often. It carries a lot of tension, and at some point it even jolted off the bed into the air. That requires blockage cleaning work, over and over again, I guess. Even if you think you are not blocked very much right now, as soon as the energy starts surging you might hit deeper blockages you are not aware of during the day or outside a trance. Take good care, Oliver |

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear that it isn't an uncommon problem. So I'll have to clean out the blockade? Do i do that the same way as when i pull up energy through my legs with my "invisible hands" as described by R. Bruce in the AP-teatrise found on this site? Or is it described better in books: "MAP" or "NEW"?

Hmm...
I've had the whole arms lifting up problem for some time now... I have always gotten frustrated at the fact that my arms rise, and then i just relaxed bring them back down... If I hadn't read this I would have never thought to try going through with it the whole way... Who knows... I could have been SO close to APing and actually stopped my myself countless times... I'll get back to you guys... Hopefully it works!! |

This is wild, but I think sometimes talking about things "incubates" the dream that we'll have the night following. Because of this conversation, I think this part of my dream from last night --
my feet float straight up in the air and pass through the ceiling. Then my whole body rotates like a hand on a clock off to the left. -- was from this conversation! |
