Default Falling
I thought I would ask you all here about this one. Every night before I fall asleep (99% of the time anyway), I literally "fall" asleep and I always instantly wake back up - usually before I hit the bottom of whatever it is I'm falling out of or off of on any given night, any ideas on how I can overcome waking up and turning it into an AP? It's such a fearful thing and it jolts me wide awake every time!

Any suggestions are welcome!

It's called a 'Myoclonic Jerk' or 'Hypnic Jerk' and it's very hard (if not impossible) to overcome, because the startle reflex is a reflex and it's considered to be the only built in fear we have as babies (fear of being dropped). You could say that it's programmed in the hindbrain, so I imagine if you 'fall' enough times you take the 'reaction' out of it.
But I don't know, it's the sort of thing that may go away or not. I don't get it anymore, but I may just not be aware of it anymore.

THIS HAPPENS TO ME ALL OF THE TIME, TOO!! Not 99% of the time but enough times. Right before I'm about to fall asleep, Ill be dreaming or having hypnogogic images and then boom I'll "fall" and that will make me have a full body jerk. For instance, I'll be dreaming that someone is kicking a soccer ball right at my face. To block it, in the dream I'll jerk out of the way and then my physical body will actually jerk just like in the dream. It's freaky...but it happens...so there is nothing we can do about but just to go with it. I doubt it will help towards AP.

It is a freaky thing for sure. My other 1/2 always asks after I do that, "you FELL asleep again didn't ya?" because I nearly jump out of my skin every time!

It's a shame that it can't be turned around some way - otherwise that would ROCK wouldn't it?. I'm going to work at it regardless tho because I'm persistent like that.

Cheers!

Yeah, it would be rather helpful if we could somehow manipulate that into a type of exit technique. Best of luck to you on that!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you mean your "other 1/2" as in your twin??
