Default How to get past REM?
So this last week I've finally been trying to consciously exit and try meditation. I hit a snag on like the 3rd day and I've been waiting for the forums to come back up so I can ask about it because I don't know what to do.

I relax as much as I can and when I feel I'm relaxed enough, I do my best to clear my mind and put my body to sleep. Shortly after that point, my eyes go into REM activity and it is distracting as all hell. I can't even concentrate while it's happening. Should I be trying to ignore it? Stop it and continue with meditating? What do I do? A couple of times, the vibrations started with the REM but I couldn't focus enough on an outside POV with my eyes going bonkers behind my eyelids.

How I got over that hurdle was by practicing with the lights off, and my eyes open. It sounds difficult, but it can be done, and it breaks the habit. Hey, if I can do it so can you.

Is that to stop the REM? Prevent it from happening? Learn to ignore it?

I think it stopped it. Either that or I just stopped noticing it.

When I get rapid eye movement during meditation I use a hypnosis technique to go deeper into trance. I imagine I am walking down a set of stairs; each step takes me deeper into the trance state. You could also try counting yourself down without using the visua, but the visualization helps me.

It would probably be a good idea to keep track of the images you get in your mind while your are in the REM state. They may not be random images but communication from spirit teachers, your guides, or higher self.

I know it can be a bit distracting when my eyes start bobbling around like that when I'm in trance, but when I discovered I could use it to go into a deeper trance it was a real boost to my meditation. I also found that the clairvoyant images were very powerful and were of the precognitive variety.

Good luck to you.

Mishell, so you're saying that when the eye movement starts, you start the visualization of walking down the stairs? Or is there more to what you're doing?
