Default Night Vision
Sometime at night as I'm going to sleep, I'll suddenly see my room through my closed eyelids. The detail of the room is always precise, but perspective of my bed seems stretched longer, and the blankets seem to be piled differently. I've always just assumed those were just hypnagogic imagery do to the inconsistancies.

But the other night, it happened again, but this time, having gotten used to the difference between what I see with my eyes closed and my eyes open, I realized I wasn't seeing my room from where my real eyes were. I was seeing it from directly against my mattress, like I was very small. I think it was somewhere around the bottom of my throat or in my chest I was seeing from, very low on the mattress.

That explains the difference in my bed and blankets, it was just a matter of perspective. When this happens, I'm able to turn a little to look around, but not very much. I'm assuming my energy is just too low right now to get up and dance.

Anyone have any thoughts? I honestly never expected to have OBE's, and I'm not entirely sure if this is something like that.

This is known as Etheric Sight, and I get the 'changed perspective also.' You're perceiving with your energy body, and in this case it was a bit 'off' from where your physical eyes are.
A quick look with the Search feature or the AD Pedia will give you more info.

As the energy body develops "seeing through the eyelids" may become a nightly escapade . I look forward to it . I continue to enjoy looking until I either project , dream or fall asleep . I have noticed that when I am ill or otherwise depleted in energy , I lose this automatic seeing thru the eyelids night vision . Also mine works when I am relaxed , in trance or lying down at night in a dim to dark room . Most of my peers in circle began this auto eyelid sight about the same time and continue to enjoy it nightly but a few of us curiously have not experienced this yet . Usually what one attains in a circle of peers all attain but practice of course helps us to get stronger with a particular skill .

What do you see when you look through the eyelids at night ?

I see spirits , realms open around me , I see through walls and into neighbours homes . It is truly bizarre . I do not seem to be able to focus or tune into what I want to see ...yet , lol .

So far, I've only seen my room in a dusky lighting. It's been happening quite a bit, but I just hadn't been noticing it before. I usually sleep facing the wall, which has not detail, so I never really had much to see. When facing the other side of my room, so far I've been opening my eyes to compare it against what I see with my eyes open.

Also, when I still thought it was hypnogogic imagery, I was trying shake loose a dream body to enter directly into lucid dreaming. A new trick I've learned. But I haven't been able to pull it off in those situations. So far the best I can do is turn my vision a maximum of 45 degrees, basically I can turn and look at the roof with a lot of effort. Nothing interesting to see up there though.

Not that i think about it, it does only seem to happen when I go to bed focused. I may have better luck with it now that I have a better understanding of what's happening.

And I had one last week where I saw an accurate close up of my kitchen counter, but there was this very strong feeling associated with it. So strong, it had me curious as to what it might be, but as I thought about it, the feeling diminished. But when I inspected the scene again, the feeling intensified.

So far, I've only seen my room in a dusky lighting. This describes accurately the way my astral sight works. I also can compare it to 'seeing through night vision goggles', where you get an approximation of depth & texture, if the energy is good. It doesn't happen often enough for me, IMO. When I was a child it used to happen all the time, and I though it was normal. Then as I got older and it didn't happen most nights, I decided I had to be dreaming, and dismissed it. Which is a shame, because it is cool.

On several occasions, when I got myself conscious astral projection. I imagine myself form a sphere and gain ability to view whole environment surrounding. Takes time to get used to it. But it works!

Yeah, often I got myself lost into sub-conscious astral. Im kinda clumsy either still a rookie probably.

I've started noticing being able to see my room with my eyes closed, too. But I've wondered if it was just my brain filling in what it THOUGHT it should be seeing if my eyes had been open. However, just lately, I wake up with my sleep mask still on and I can see sunlight flooding my room. I take it off, and that's exactly what's happening. So I don't know what to think....

That describes what I've been seeing perfectly!

al.luciddreamer,

well, why worry so much? Believe your eyes... or third eye in this case.

One time I was able to see through closed eyes.
And of course it was total darkness out there. And the vision was too strange...

I don't actually know what it was - supposingly astral sight.
I haven't seen any colours! There was just kinda flickering contours and edges of all surroundings... Made of strings of white-blue sparkles. Like all space was flickering with stable frequency.

I'll do a photoshop simulation of what it looked like for me -- I think I can replicate it with filters and a picture of my room (but I have to wait until I'm up to the required 20 posts on this forum before I can post a link!).

al.luciddreamer, what kind of vision did you have? colored? paled or colorful?
My vision was like: Find Edges-> Inverse -> Desaturate -> Color Balance (Blue +100) + something like feeling of depth.

As a matter of fact, when I was reading AD, in the part when blind since birth person was explaining his "vision", I've remembered my own experience. IMO what I saw was something like this. Depth feeling + glowing flickering edges.

(but I have to wait until I'm up to the required 20 posts on this forum before I can post a link!). This is actually negotiable in some instances. In the case of what you propose, it is quite okay. The rule is to prevent spamming.

Great! Here goes, then --

Find Edges-> Inverse -> Desaturate -> Color Balance (Blue +100) + something like feeling of depth.
Volutar, thank you, that worked out perfectly for me -- all I did was change the color balance to brown, since that's what I see, and I also added noise (about 11) --

Wow, you mean - you haven't seen any colors too?
Very interesting indeed
Maybe exact color of those edges depends on energy activity (sort of filtered perceiving)?
But I don't remember any noise filling - just depth feeling. And maybe these depth perceiving and your noise - exactly the same thing, but interpreted in different ways...

Have you noticed any space flickering or sparkles, which forms these light edges?

When I had evening experience - I have noticed strange "virtual goggles" feeling and kinda waving edges, that obviously was very sharp and close to stable, but still fluctuating .

No ... wow, I think I'd be shocked if I actually saw colors when this happens! Also, no sparkles or flickering -- more like just very muted, dim lines.

That looks about right to me- maybe a teensy bit brighter.
The more I looked at my image, the more I realized that what I see is actually *DIMMER* than that. It seems like there is a wide range of experience for this....

That's exactly what i see, but with a bit of green and maybe blue mixed in.
I'm going to have to pay more attention when this happens to me again -- now I want to see colors, too!
