Default Quarters
heh heh, if my attempts at obe's was a game of quarters i would be a winner! i always get so close but never cross the line into the astral. i think the closest ive gotten is to some intense vibrations. but every time i get there they shake me up and i have to move. its frustrating! any advice? i dont think ive seen any hypnogogic imagery, does thst mean im close or far?

From the little info you gave it sounds to me that you are not in deep enough.
Can you describe a little more detail, like what do you do to try to OBE?

well i think ive tried every technique ive read about, the rope (not too much i didnt like it for some reason) and the staring at something one, visualising a pyramid or some other rotating thingamajig, just clearing my mind and watching and waiting, but most of the time i get so tired and i roll over and fall asleep :X

usually what i feel is this:
i sit there and let my heart slow down, calming myself as i lay there. my favorite position is on my right side, left arm curled under myself with right arm under my pillow. i feel myself calming and relaxing, my body starting to fall asleep. i stay alert, and then it feels like a blanket is on me or tingling. this is usually where the vibrations come in, and it shakes me making me fidget. occasionally i feel the tilting sensation, and i jolt

Have you tried a recliner? It's comfy enough to get you relaxed enough, there is no possibility of you 'falling sideways' and getting jolted, and when you start getting vibes you can just breathe through them, something you have to train yourself to do.
If you don't like the rope technique, you can do other things, like concentrate on whatever visuals you may be getting (I don't advocate using your imagination, because that's the easiest way to fall asleep).
Time your breathing with the vibrations, as if they were waves going over your body and you're going to 'surf them', and do this mentally, without moving your body.
If you can move when the vibes happen, you're not in deep enough.

I only get vibrations when I momentarily awake during the night in a trance-like situation. I too, like draco, seem to not be able to enter a deep enough trance to go OOBE without either moving or falling asleep...

How do you guys do it?

It could be that he is projecting but doesn't remember. Robert Bruce says this happens a lot, because the person just isn't downloading the shadow memory before they fall into dream and forget.

How do you guys do it? Practice, practice practice. Try different times of the day, although the early morning is the best for REM- so I really do recommend that if you believe you're clicking out to try to do it early in the morning, so that getting into trance isn't such a hard thing to do, but you're not so tired that you have to go to sleep.

I'm having the same problems. I guess it all comes down to concentration. I often feel floating and vibrations, but always start paying attention to it. I think the real challenge in achieving this is NOT paying attention. The rest will follow...

I don't think that's right- If I didn't pay attention to them I would never know when to get out. The thing is to then use them to try an exit technique. If you feel floating you should then try to 'go with the direction of your floatiness'. If it's vibrations only, then try a classic exit technique. If they stop, don't stop trying unless you wake up completely. Even if you feel you woke up, try getting up and see what happens. The point is not to stop trying when you think it's over, because sometimes that's when you get out, amazingly.

Ok thanks. I will definetly try that. Almost everytime after sensations of any sort feel like i'm awake again and kind of try, but lose faith in the attempt.
