Default motivation waning
Hi,
I tried and tried and was REALLY into AD and projecting. I worked on it for 4 months every day and was SO enthusiastic about experiencing another world and the possibilities that there are when outside the body. I had a couple mini successes, no awake OBEs though, just from the sleep state spontaneously. I haven't meditated or worked on techniques for a couple weeks and am finding myself frustrated and seriously lacking the motivation to take time out of my schedule and work on this anymore. This makes me sad and dissapointed in myself. If anyone has any input or words of wisdom I'd love the hear 'em. I know this is something that I would love to be able to do, but currently find myself at a wall I can't climb.

I wonder if maybe you need to back off from the 'wall' & try a different approach. Sometimes we get hung up on trying to achieve something & the wanting prevents us from letting go enough for it to happen.

I kinda get the impression of you laying there, relaxing into a state of positive expectation, watching yourself for the first signs of success. Perhaps you could try the exercises just for there own sake - use them to calm you, to build your energy & awareness & stop worrying about whether or not you go exterior.

Maybe also try a different tack - have a look at lucid dreaming or maybe try some hemisync stuff to get both sides of your mind running the same frequencies. Have a look at the Tibetan exercises & start doing them each day as well as NEW. Basically get off the 'I must do this' treadmill & maybe also try to get some enjoyment from what you're doing.

It's something I've seen a bit of on these forums; people so intent on their astral stuff they forget to enjoy themselves - seems everything astral has to be serious & with intent.

YEs, I'm pretty sure bwgen generates hemisync files - it's brainwave entrainment - getting the mind to resonate with the frequencies so as to 'entrain' it into the alpha, theta & delta states of mind. The mind is normally in beta frequencies while awake.

Google 'tibetan exercise' - it's a set of exercises (5 in total) to improve the body condition.

Just suggesting some things that may take some of the pressure off you so you can relax a little & maybe achieve more.

Motivation is a huge factor. Some would say there is a point where you try too hard, so it makes it harder. I'm having a similar problem at the moment, I'm trying real hard, yet I'm not sure where my beliefs stand. I've projected a zillion times but can't right now. But every night I give it at least some effort. I have gone through stages like this before come to think of it. My advice would be to keep trying, but don't drive yourself crazy with the need to do it. I have found that persistence leads to results, and that applies to all aspects of life. Good luck, be positive and consistent, and never let go your awe of the mystery.

Lowell, I'm pretty much at the same stage you are at. I'm sort of following Journyman's advice and just backing off of the huge expectations. I still casually do some energy work, but nothing as serious as before.

I've had this same problem with lucid dreaming. At times when I'm really into it, I can have a lucid dream once a week. But then I lose my steam and forget about it.

I know this doesn't help you at all, but you're not the only one to have these issues! I think it just goes in cycles. I figure eventually I'll get back into it.

Ok thanks for the replies everyone... I can dig the "enjoy the JOURNEY towards your goal" outlook. I really want to have control over OBEs... but if I just can't do it yet, then I might as well make the best of working on it and not look at the journey as a burden.

thanks!

Reading "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead," a play by Tom Stoppard, I came across a quote that resonated with this condition. It doesn't answer your question but that's okay because others have done that well already:

Guil: What a fine persecution- to be kept intrigued without ever quite being enlightened...

Interesting, I just posted almost the same post as yours. Then continued down the page and saw yours.

I am at the same point also, and I like the responses to yours. Maybe I am trying TOO HARD???

Good luck!

I'm still trying.........

I've found some motivation recently in the form or a challenge. I'd read Astral Dynamics, but recieved MAP from my brother for Christmas. He bought MAP over the summer, but stopped after week 3.

He told me that his personal motivation this time was to buy himself a sushi dinner after each 30 days he completes. And, to motivate both of us more, he offered to buy ME a sushi dinner if I complete the month before he does (he started a couple weeks ahead of me).

Honestly, I'm less motivated by the thought of a free sushi dinner than I am just by the fact that I'm working on the same goal as my brother. So, my advice would be to get a friend involved who wants to complete the 90 days as well. Sharing personal experiences with each other is a great motivation. Well, so far at least. I'm only on week 3

-> orbit1,
I confirm that! When I started the MAP I obliged myself to send a post each day in this forum. So I couldn't abandon.
