In a recent OBE I saw what seemed like a purgatory for those who were trying to get into a dark, underworld type place. Souls were gathering in an old countryside house, and an older soul (previously a mafia thug when he was alive) was reviewing their lives and deciding who would be allowed to enter the next level. Not many were admitted and those who failed were embarassed by an audience of other souls. Has anyone else seen a place like this?

I have also run into entities that were alarmed by me in the astral plane. Before falling asleep, I used to hear voices whispering to each other. The words were hard to make out, and I could only catch phrases. They were alarmed when they became aware that I was listening. Recently, a being tried to chase me down. It was threatened because it was not sure about my intentions. At first I hid in a grove of plants with long tendrils. As I was hiding, the being explained that it threatened because it couldn't be sure if I were good or evil. I decided to try to jump out and attack it with some kind of pick or axe that suddenly appeared in my hand, but I snapped back to my body before that happened. When I jumped out, I was yelling and claiming to be some kind of demon. I'm not sure if I was just trying to scare the being, or if what I was saying was true.

When I'm on the AP, I feel like a totally different person with a set of experiences that I am completely unaware of in waking life.

Can anyone relate to or explain any of this?

Well, we believe the astral is created by the collective unconscious and we know that the collective consciousness of these times believe in hell, so I'm not surprised that places like that are seen. (I'm happy to say that I haven't seen places like that in my travels, though.)
I have wondered (as others) if we're other people's negs, and vice-versa. I know I've ran away from 'people' that seemed to want to talk to me but gave me 'wrong feelings' and actually interacted with scary looking beings and never for a minute felt threatened. So one man's neg can be another man's buddy. Or something!
When I'm on the AP, I feel like a totally different person with a set of experiences that I am completely unaware of in waking life. well, Munkacsy, if you consider that we are multidimensional beings who exist simultaneously in many dimensions with only awareness of the here and now, that isn't really surprising. Just imagine, that our souls at some 'point' decided together to get us to have this conversation!

Lol, awesome. A cuban crime lord or a triad, preferably triad is alerted and cries in chinese; "Kill the infidel!" This sounds like some kind of afterlife meeting, as would a regular mafia meeting be, in a secluded building and maybe i think what you were dreaming was maybe of someone elses experiences. It's like the beings in this became aware of your presence, maybe in order to prevent you finding out anything. You should try going back to this place, as i would (I think) if i could OBE. You bring up a very interesting point that I don't hear on this forum very often.... maybe it only applies to some of us. Perhaps it applies to everyone in different degrees.

When I am in a lucid dream or AP, I often have a completely different agenda than what I try to program into my brain when I am awake. Sometimes the tasks I set myself come to fruition months later... it's like sowing the seeds to bear fruit later.

I believe that many of the barriers between our lucid selves and our unconscious are down during these nightly excursions. It seems like there is a more direct connection between the thought of action and the actual doing of the deed. It's like a deep upwelling of the unconscious. I certainly don't think as much during these experiences...

My night self is certainly not an exact replica of my awake self.

I have also experienced where I felt like I was another entity like a god or demon or some kind of immortal something or other..... and felt like I had some vast knowledge. During those times, I performed actions outside my character (although none were truely disagreeable or immoral). When I woke up, I sometimes retained the feeling of "vast knowledge," but could never remember anything concrete.

I think it is very possible that some other dreamer was unsure about if I was a neg or not that time. Seems obvious now but I didn't consider it before, thanks for the input. If all humans travel the astral planes while we're asleep we're bound to run into each other.

In reference to the question about the "purgatory" experience... at first I understood that I was flying above the other spirits who were being drawn to this house, maybe even overseeing them or guiding them there. They were not aware of me, although I was aware of them. I had the feeling that I had been in that realm a long long time. The funny part was that when these souls were competing for "advancement" and reviewing each other's lives, some of the newer souls would attempt to draw me into the conflict by bringing up embarassing situations from my life, as if they were somehow bolstering their own "rating" by mocking someone who had been there a long time. So yes, they did become aware of me later on in the experience.

I don't think it was an actual mafia meeting, I just got the impression that the "boss" had been some kind of low level gangster in his life on earth. Not particularly evil but a kind of grunt that was willing to do anything to satisfy the requirments of his boss, a character like that. Hell's middle-management, or something.

That's interesting that other people experience a sense of duality in regard to their conscious and unconscious selves. I am beginning to wonder which personality is actually repsonsible for doing the dreaming. One time I met an old man who seemed very familiar, like an old buddy that I communicate with regularly on the astral planes. I began talking to him about subjects that made no sense to me, as if I were watching the conversation from a third person perspective.
