Sarah Palin's fundraising speech at California State University, Stanislaus will be the culmination of months of controversy. The controversy stems from the fact that Stanislaus State is a California state public university, funded in part by California taxpayers, and Palin is a public figure who appears on Fox News Channel and elsewhere, yet the university has tried to maintain secrecy regarding many aspects of Palin's planned appearance.
First, the Associated Press has been pushing since mid-April to have media invited to the event. University officials have finally acceded to AP's request, and will permit members of the media to attend. Then, when groups asked to see Palin's contract with the university, it was alleged that the copies were being shredded. Pages of the contract were soon found in the shredder by quick-acting Stanislaus students. Such pages of Palin's contract included round-trip, first-class airfare for two, or a "private aircraft [which] MUST BE a Lear 60 or larger," a suite and two rooms at a deluxe hotel, and transportation via SUVs or black town cars [emphasis in original]. According to these found pages, Palin's contract also requires that Palin's lectern be stocked with water bottles and bendable straws. The found contract pages did not include Palin's compensation. Palin has been charging fees of up to $100,000 per event, and, at the Stanislaus event, Palin's fee, which the university has not disclosed, is alleged to be in the $75,000 range. Tickets for the black-tie event reportedly cost $ 500 and up. In April, California Attorney General Jerry Brown launched an investigation into several aspects of Palin's planned appearance at Stanislaus, including the finances of the foundation that the university says is handling the negotiations over Palin's presentation, the alleged dumping of documents connected with Palin's speech, and whether the university violated public disclosure laws by trying to maintain so much secrecy around Palin's featured event. California state Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) has also been pushing CSU for more facts regarding Palin's appearance. According to Yee, the decision to permit media to cover Palin's event should have been a "no-brainer." http://www.examiner.com/x-28442-LA-County-Political-Buzz-Examiner~y2010m6d24-Controversy-follows-Sarah-Palin-to-Cal-State-University-speech I certainly don't want a single penny of my tax dollars going to anything having to do with this woman. I'll be curious to see how big the protests are. |

This is about the rule of law vs. an unconstitutional power grab. Read Thomas Sowell's article: http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnal...?id=537967&p=2 SarahPalinUSA http://twitter.com/SarahPalinUSA/status/16988643344 |

People like Sowell and Palin need to be forced to live on the Gulf Coast and see what this disaster means to the people there. I don't mean do a flyover or visit the beach from a luxury hotel. I mean have to get up in the morning before the sun and take your boat out so that you have a chance of catching enough to sell so that you can feed your family.
Sowell is an idjut. |
